Fundie ''World Harvest Church'' Slapped With $6 Million Jury Judgment
Fundie preacher Rod Parsley and his World Harvest Church were penalized $6 million dollars for physical abuse of a two year-old at the church's former daycare center. Parsley, a spittle-spewing Fundie Nutjob is also known for his staunch belief that adulterers should be imprisoned. For life. He hailed as an example which other states should follow, a Michigan Appeals Court ruling earlier this year that said: "anyone involved in an extramarital affair can be prosecuted for first-degree criminal sexual conduct, a felony punishable by up to life in prison." He relished in this decision as he makes clear through his http://www.centerformoralclarity.net/Articles.aspx?page=2007013005">"Center For Moral Clarity" organization.

Jury awards $6M to couple in alleged day care spanking

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- A jury awarded $6 million Thursday to a couple who accused a substitute teacher at a day care center of striking their toddler son, causing marks on the boy's buttocks and legs. Michael and Lacey Faieta of Canal Winchester said their 2-year-old son complained last year that the teacher spanked him with a "knife" at the Cuddle Care day care center, which was operated by World Harvest Church.

The parents believed that teacher Richard Vaughan had hit their son with a ruler and took pictures of lines on the boy's body before taking him to a hospital. The boy suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder, and Lacey Faieta quit her job to care for him, according to court testimony. Vaughan, 58, who denied the allegations, was investigated by police and Franklin County Children Services but never charged. He eventually quit, and the day care center closed.

During court testimony, church officials and two doctors called the boy's injuries a rash. But jurors in Franklin County Common Pleas Court found Vaughan responsible for injuries to the child, and World Harvest Church liable for failing to supervise Vaughan. The church was ordered to pay $5.8 million and Vaughan the rest. An appeal will be filed, according to the church's lawyer.

"This decision and the amount of this award are outrageous and well beyond the jury's authority," said Charles Saxbe, of the law firm representing World Harvest Church. "This is a classic example of a 'runaway jury.'"

2. Repukes "run" gubment???
One of my favorite quotes:

"The Democrats are the party that says government will make you smarter, taller, richer, and remove the crabgrass on your lawn. The Republicans are the party that says government doesn't work and then they get elected and prove it." ~ P.J. O'Rourke

5. The irony being....

4. What can't they take? An outrageous settlement?
If only I had been paid $6 million for being spanked by my teacher. Post-traumatic stress disorder for being spanked once?

Oh please. These people are insane.

6. Irrespective of the award....
....even if it had been just $1, its main message is that World Harvest Church and its policies on harsh discipline is wrong. Which they believe should be imposed from toddlers http://www.centerformoralclarity.net/Articles.aspx?page=2007013005">to adults apparently, and they were judged by a jury of their peers, and found wanting. I have no patience for Fundies. None.

This jury said that the church was negligent, and this act of civil justice, reflecting society, has told an extreme right-wing element of the religious community that they don't buy their bullshit moralizing. And that public standards of care shall prevail with respect to the health and safety of children. Not the antiquated Bronze-Age beliefs of a radical fundamentalist religious group. Which is what they are.

Rather than chide the OP about the award amount, I'd say that this is what they addressed, not the sanctity and biblical righteousness to allow the beating a 2 year-old child with a ruler. And as always, they were complaining about the money, not that they'd been found guilty of negligence. The didn't defend their policies or child-rearing practices nor their beliefs. Now why was that?

To me, it simply exposes them, for who they are.....

7. Look, No One's Happier Than Me That a Fundie Church Got Fined 6 Mil, But...
...six million for a spanking is ridiculous. Almost as ridiculous as the child having "post-traumatic stress disorder". I'm not saying the teacher had a right to spank the kid. I'm just saying that those parents are money-grubbing maggots.

8. I used to live a few miles from his church (but in his defense)
And the news usually had something on him from time to time - he was a real nut job and still is.

Although in his defense he is one man and probably has little idea what people under him do (as in this case). In one case IIRC he punched or threatened a contractor who was building one of his homes (worth about 800k, an insane amount in the area and caught the eye of many other christians locally who thought he should be more prudent in his spending).
