Steve Martin Writes Children's Book

HILLEL ITALIE | October 22, 2007 03:12 PM EST |

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

NEW YORK
NEW YORK — The trend seems as plain as the nose on your child's face, or an arrow through your head. There's Madonna, Billy Crystal and Jamie Lee Curtis. And Jerry Seinfeld. And John Lithgow. And Katie Couric.

All celebrities. All parents. All authors of children's books.

Now Steve Martin has written one.

But he doesn't have any children.

The link on the front page of the Huffington Post is exactly what I have in my subject line - Childless Steve Martin Pens A Children's Book"

How absolutely idiotic. I could start a list of "childless" people who have written enduring classics for children, but why bother? This commentary is so stupid it just leaves one breathless and stupefied at the same time.

8. Georgy Porgy read a book to children while Americans were
incinerated in the twin towers then killed innocent children in another country. Oh, I forgot. That's called collateral damage. :dem:

9. How odd....
Perhaps if he'd never been a child or met a child, the blogger would have a point. I'm no expert, but a quick memory check tells me that there have been a lot of "childless" people who have written children's books.

11. like, for example, Beatrix Potter
She wrote a whole series of books for children -- and many of her characters, including Peter Rabbit, are still well-known after more than a century!

12. I'm Writing a Children's Book as We Speak.
Not only am I childless, but I don't really care for children. Why am I writing the book? I got a great idea for a children's story, and I'm acting on it. I'd imagine Steve feels the same way (although he might actually LIKE children).
