What is it with left-wing radio hosts bashing AAR?
There's the thread about Big Ed Schultz:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x199564

And I was listening to Bill Press this morning and he basically said that AAR was not staffed with radio people, rather it had ideologues.

I don't know if anyone else has, but what up with this. Shouldn't we be happy that there is radio for the liberal listener?

5. That's it in a nutshell
At least, momma has more sense. She never says anything negative about AAR.

4. I heard Schultz go off yesterday.
I didn't like him a lot before then, now I really have no interest in listening to him. Democrats have a tough enough time without our few media people fighting each other. Plus, he's inconsistent, and not always informed.

I didn't hear Bill Press. Did he go off on a long, angry rant like Schultz, or was he just making a statement? I can see that comment as not necessarily an attack. There are politicos and activists who do radio and television without really being career radio people. I've never listened to Press, as far as I know, so I don't know his style.

10. Press's was more of comment than a rant.
Schultz was screaming at callers who i guess were complaining about him going on satellite (couldn't really tell tho). I listen to Schultz for a bit most days and have never heard him like that.

11. Bill Press has had a show for a few months.
He used to be on CrossFire and Capital Gang (on PBS), I think.

20. Yes, thank you, and I wager he has far more listeners now than before
Thanks to AAR there is a whole new awareness with regard to liberal talk radio. It would be fun to see some real numbers.

8. $$$ and EGOs . Nothing like a circular firing squad.
though I think big Eddy is really being controlled from the right. Press has always been too tepid in my opinion--sort of like the pink tutus in congress.

14. I went to Ed's site and listened to his rant
http://www.wegoted.com/dailyAudio/index.asp

I'm not a fan of his show but he does have a point. Sam Sedar shouldn't encourage his listeners to write XM to get Ed's show off the air. I think it's awful for all of these radio hosts to criticize others. I don't like it when Randi criticizes Al either.

17. I heard Sedar encouraging people to push for the full AAR slate.
I didn't pay enough attention to hear him mention Schultz by name, but he may have. My impression was that he was pimping AAR, not attacking someone, but I wasn't listening completely. I was at work, the radio was on.

But Schultz went way off the deep end. He went after Randi, the whole AAR crew, anyone who listens to AAR, and, just as I changed the channel, he was calling out Mike Malloy.

It reminded me of the flaming rants around here against pop entertainers or athletes or whomever someone wants to rant about. When the rant goes "I hate that person, I can't stand a thing they do!" it's amusing. But when the rant becomes "They are talentless shits, they suck, they can't act/sing/paint their way out of a paper bag!" they have stopped expressing their opinion and begun to attack everyone who likes their target. To me, that's the opposite of being a liberal, and that's where Schultz went yesterday. Press, it sounds like, was a long way from crossing that line.

Schultz is off my list now. I love hearing diversity of opinion (I don't agree with Randi or Sam all the time, either, but I like their shows), but I hate listening to hate. Schultz sounds more like hate radio, like Limbaugh and O'Reilly and that fake Libertarian whose name I've forgotten, than I want to listen to. To me, being a liberal is first and foremost having a certain respect for all people, not about having a certain ideology. Ed proved to me he doesn't have that.

My rant. I wanted to rant so badly today. And now I have. :) probably no one will notice. :(

15. Um, Ed Schultz is nowhere NEAR left-wing.
He also lied about Murtha, back when Murtha first came out against the war.

Fuck Schultz!

I remember some heat he took about his comments, but what was the lie?

21. IIRC, and it's really rusty...something about a resolution Murtha wanted.
I could be off, but I *think* Schultz repeated the rightwing meme that it was a cut-and-run resolution. Something like that.

It was an out-and-out lie, though.

18. bill press is on AAR in Chicago, as well as Sirius, and he's HORRible.
really really bad radio, from the awful drops, the obnoxious music he plays, to the forced humor and very tepid political stances.

I tried for awhile to listen, but that show is really really bad: on a par with Ed Schultz

so the Chicago AAR lineup consists now of about 6-7 hours of canned DAYTIME shows (Hartmann, Randi), following the awful Press, and the excellent Stephanie Miller.

it's a sunup to sundown station, btw. just what the third largest city in the nation deserves, right?

19. Honestly, I will take any of them I can get, including Big Eddie
and Bill Press. After years of absolutely no option other than RW hack jobs, I'm happy to have all of them trying to bring a more liberal view to radio.
