NZ Government Saying "Yassum-Massa" To George Bush's Terror Policy - Maori Member Of Parliament
Edited on Tue Oct-23-07 05:22 PM by althecat
"You know folks - this stuff about how the white-collar crims get away while poor Polynesian crims get jailed for some rather petty bloody offences, makes me want to go out and preach in prisons:

"Mend your ways all ye brownies who have fallen by the wayside. Come unto the path of righteousness, whiteness, light-fingers and fraudulence, and if thou must sin, then sin with aplomb, sin with style, and sin with a white-collar for greatest effect.

Make lots and lots of money, slip a smidgen to the Lord, and sin only against the poor and the Maori, for theirs is already the kingdom of heaven when they die, so they won't mind you robbing them blind, while they live."

But to bring a sense of perspective to all this, let me also say this ..

While the white corporate raiders continue on their merry way, untroubled by the pathetically weak laws of this land, Maori people are being hunted down and arrested, not because of any life-threatening actions, but because of this government's kihi-kotore, sycophantic, yassum-massa, attitude to the American demand that we accept unreservedly, their definition of terrorism, justified no doubt, by some protected disclosures.

Is this whole terrorism thing over-blown? Hell yes !!!

TV1 flies in an expert on terrorism and protected disclosures, he looks over the facts, and he tells us that the police action is over the top, unnecessary, overkill, and that what has been identified isn't terrorism, just good old-fashioned, Kiwi activism.

Ross Meurant, Auckland Task Force, Red Squad, and the MP who used protected disclosure to try to get me lynched for terrorism during his maiden speech in this very House, even he reckons that Officers were victims of their own propaganda. "

The arrest and detention without bail of seventeen individuals on grounds that they were planning terrorist attacks against political targets in New Zealand represents a step towards the “Guantanomisation” of national security policy in this country, at least as it applies to political dissent. Like the Cuban soil occupied by a US military base, the normal rules of legal rights and due process apparently do not apply to political extremists. Evidence was collected for more than a year by the police and SIS (and probably the GCSB), but only now are the Police Commissioner and Solicitor-General considering whether to lay charges under the Terrorism Suppression Act. Meanwhile the detainees have been remanded without bail for two weeks on firearms charges, with all information about their cases suppressed. It appears that the public right to know and natural justice are trumped by judicial concerns about individual privacy and evidence secrecy. One must assume that the clear and present danger to national security and public safety posed by these individuals is so grave that they are denied the basic right to swift justice and presumption of innocence reserved to all others.

2. "kihi-kotore" = "kiss-ass"!
No, I don't know Maori, not even very much Hawaiian, but it's here:

Should've been able to guess at "kotore"; the Hawaiian equivalent is "'okole".

3. C.D. Sludge: George Bush Alleged Target In Intercepted Activist Phone Communications..U.S. Informed
Involvement Of Security Agencies Other Than The Police - Domestic & International
http://www.scoop.co.nz/stories/HL0710/S00341.htm#3
"Yesterday - October 21st -the Sunday Star Times reported that when the operation intercepted communications containing threats against the life of United States President George Bush - should he visit New Zealand - these threats were passed on to the United States authorities. The paper reported:
" Intelligence staff in Wellington informed their American counterparts of the recorded threat against Bush and an intelligence source told the Star-Times the Americans agreed to leave New Zealand police to handle any investigation. Bush and his wife Laura were tipped to make a half-day visit to New Zealand at the end of the Apec summit in Sydney in September.

Security assessments were reportedly under way, but by late June Clark was saying a visit was unlikely.
American Embassy spokeswoman Janine Burns also declined to comment on whether any threat to Bush was a factor in his decision not to come to New Zealand. "We do not comment on security matters."

We can assume from this that the U.S. Secret Service - who are responsible for Presidential security - have also been informed of the New Zealand operation."

It was naive, I'm sure, but somehow I imagined New Zealand to be an oasis, untouched by the madness.

What a shame this is. We can't do anything but screw up under the current illegal regime in this
country.

New Zealand deserves better and so do we.

IMPEACHMENT NOW.

Note: My compliments to "Scoop" and the great coverage provided on this issue.

9. I have a question. I've read a fair amount of the "Scoop" coverage on this. How's this "terrorism?"

So these guys had a compound on the coast and they were hostile to politicians and spoke of injustice.
They also had some ordinance. But they didn't sound that different that a whole bunch of survivalist
and militia groups here who are flat out furious at our government and own a boatload of weapons.

This is not terrorism. Terrorism is an action not likely to be misinterpreted with a hide-a-way camp.

— ter·ror·is·tic Listen to the pronunciation of terroristic \ˌter-ər-ˈis-tik\ adjective

These folks hit out, to my knowledge, did nothing, yet they're called terrorists...right when the Parliament is considering a fourth bill on terrorism.

10. That's the question we have all been asking....
The cops I think are going to claim that they had some terror event planned. However I expect all they have is some folks talking crap in phone intercepts.

11. Terrific. If they'd used phone intercepts here as criteria, there wouldn't be enough
room in the jails!
