AP
EW YORK -- If elected president in 2008, Democrat Hillary Rodham Clinton would consider giving up some of the executive powers President Bush and Vice President Cheney have assumed since taking office.

In an interview published Tuesday in Guardian America, a Web site run by the London-based Guardian newspaper, Clinton denounced the Bush Administration's push to concentrate more power in the White House as a "power grab" not supported by the Constitution.

Asked if she would consider giving up some of those powers if she were president, Clinton replied, "Oh, absolutely ... I mean, that has to be part of the review that I undertake when I get to the White House, and I intend to do that."
...snip...

I am somewhat skeptical, but you have to hope sometimes.

2. You do mean HOPE, right?
Otherwise....why are you hopping?

I believe her, BTW...

And I expect her to keep her word!

I mean, if she's our president...

9. I expect her to do just what she said - "consider" "giving up" "some" illegal powers.
That's the problem - that she'd try to keep any of them.

11. SHE did NOT say "consider"
Can you tell the difference between a headline and a direct quote?

Where did she use that word, please show me.

3. Hello Obama or Edwards: This is a key opportunity!!!
"would consider giving up some of those powers if she were president"

*Consider* is NOT near good enough for Our Democratic Republic to become functional again. Even Constitutional Scholars like Johnathon Turly INSIST that the *vast* increase in Executive Powers must be scaled back REGARDLESS of whether or not there's a Democrat or Republican sitting in the Oval Office.

BALANCE OF POWERS must be re-established ... now I'm waiting for both Obama and Edwards to hopefully see an opening and "jump all over this."

BTW I'm also hoping against hope that Edwards and Obama humble themselves with each other and agree to JOIN FORCES. I personally don't care if it's Edwards/Obama or Obama/Edwards but I'm convinced only *one* of the forgoing can beat The DLC's Mighty Pro-HRC Machine ESPECIALLY with Mark Penn at the helm.

6. I agree Edwards has a HUGE opportunity on this...
If he were to falt out pledge he would rescind even 3/4 of what Cheney has put into place Edwards points would skyrocket! He'd own the independent voters.

she answered exactly as we all should want ANY candidate to answer, and you use it as an excuse to attack. You're rabid.

On edit:

Here is that part of the actual interview:

Q: "I guess I'm asking, can a president, once in the White House, actually give up some of this power in the name of constitutional principle?

A: Oh, absolutely, Michael. I mean that has to be part of the review that I undertake when I get to the White House, and I intend to do that."

8. COMPLETELY ILLEGAL POWERS, at that.
No president can decide their own powers, especially to retain ill-gotten ones - to decide one's own power is the very antithesis of our checks and balances system!

10. WHAT are you people complaining about??
"Consider" was NOT her word, it was the AP's word.

"There were a lot of actions which they took that were clearly beyond any power the Congress would have granted, or that in my view was inherent in the Constitution," Clinton said. "There were other actions they've taken which could have obtained Congressional authorization but they deliberately chose not to pursue it as a matter of principle."

I applaud her for this. Jesus, can't you give her anything just because her name is Hillary?
