So really...what do we do if these nuts actually go ahead with an attack on Iran?

i mean...really? we all talk about "will they attack or won't they," but what if they do?

are we supposed to crash DU servers while pounding the keys with outrage? write letters to our congressman or newspapers?

do Americans still have the balls and determination to make a protest more than just something you do on the weekend?

do Americans have the balls to attempt less desirable means of protest?

what? what are you willing to do? be honest.

is "freedom just another word for nothing left to lose?" don't most Americans have too much to lose if they make too outspoken or forceful a protest...too afraid of the consequences?

would you risk it?

6. Prepare for $8 a gallon gas
and no more buying of american debt by the central banks of China and Japan. Be prepared for hostilities toward americans traveling in every corner of the globe. Look out for the utter breakdown of American society as we lose our mobility and ability to earn a living and feed our families. Be prepared for Weimar republic style inflation where you can wipe your ass with dollar bills because its cheaper than toilet paper.

And stay out of the way of those chickens. You know the ones that are coming home to roost.

13. And how would poor people "prepare"?
"Look out for the utter breakdown of American society as we lose our mobility and ability to earn a living and feed our families. "

Sadly, I think that would be a good thing.

17. It's become painfully obvious that there is a sad lack of understanding and empathy for poor folk in
this country.

So much so that mere words don't seem to get through to people.

Many of us are coming to the conclusion that only when muddleclass and upper muddleclass people experience devastation for themselves will they be able to relate and empathize.

Very sad.

19. i wouldn't wish it on them, however...
and giving them empathy won't do the country any good.
the country will be in the toilet either way. all the empathy in the world won't help a damn thing.

20. Interesting. I'd give a LOT to get some empathy.
Maybe that's part of the difference.

And, if you remember, I repeated that it was sad it has come to this.

Again, :(

37. i meant in the context of us being in a ww3 situation.
of course empathy would be a good thing.
but if the woods are burning, all the empathy in the world won't mean a thing. it means we'll all be destitute and singing round the camp fire before we are obliterated

23. Well I hope you have room for a little garden and a few chickens
because you won't be able to get to the grocery store and if somehow you do there won't be anything there you can afford. You'll need to be able to grow your own veggies and have some eggs and once in a while eat one of the chickens for protein. Forget the internets, forget TV we won't be able to afford the electric bills. We'll all basically be subsistence farmers just as our ancestors were at the start of the industrial revolution.

This won't happen overnight (the $8 a gallon gas might) but within a generation or two we will have regressed 200 years. We don't know how to actually manufacture anything here anymore and if we isolate ourselves from those in the world who do know how, we are f*cked. Invadin Iran will put us well on the way to achieving that isolation.

14. A real battle won't/can't be planned on the internets.
There is a natural point where the balance will tip. Where the people will have nothing left to lose and rise up. I don't know where it will happen. It will probably be an event that just kind of spreads. Maybe a group will stop paying the blood-soaked income tax and the Feds will come down Waco style on the WRONG neighborhood and THAT will be where it starts. THAT will be when the great mass that has felt so powerless will step in and say "NO, not here. They are our NEIGHBORS!"

That is how the Shay's Rebellion must have gone, I imagine. "Not our neighbors, not our family, not our friends! NO MORE!"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shay%27s_Rebellion

"Daniel Shays, a veteran of the American Revolutionary War. The war's debt ultimately trickled down to individuals, in large part to small farmers. In addition, the tax system at the time — a direct capitation (poll tax) — was highly regressive, especially given the fact that there was a dichotomy in eighteenth century Massachusetts economy. Much of the western and central parts of the Commonwealth had a barter economy, as opposed to the monetary economy that existed in the eastern part of the Commonwealth. Compounding the east–west dichotomy was the fact that certain mature western and central Massachusetts towns (such as Northampton or Hadley) possessed more developed monetary economies, whereas other towns (such as Amherst or Pelham) subsisted on a barter economy. As a result, to meet their debts, many small farmers were forced to sell their land, often at less than one-third of fair market price to eastern Massachusetts speculators. Loss of such property could reduce families to extreme poverty. It also often meant that such men might lose their right to vote since suffrage was often tied to property ownership."

I would hope people would at the very least forget their prejudests and help eachother live through it if there is a living through it .

Who knows what the rest of the worlds response will be , it could quickly turn into WW III .

39. Nope, it would be time to come together and assist those who are alone, especially.
"help eachother live through it if there is a living through it . "

That's exactly right. And those who would be much more in peril are people who are already on the edge, poor folk, and people who are alone.

It would be time to change our line of sight, and pay attention to those who we ordinarily don't even see.

40. No crashing servers for me. In fact, I'll be off-line
since I will be busy cleaning out the bank account, laying in a hundred gallons of diesel, thirty of kerosene, four months of food, and picking up those two shotguns and a couple of pistols I really don't want to buy.

After getting those items laid in, another trip to buy 10-12 volt deep cycle batteries, an inverter, and a charger (actually, I should buy those last two now).

After a couple of days, jump on line to see what passes for the worlds leaders are proposing to mitigate the loss of 50% of the worlds oil export market.

Oh. First stop, after the bank, will be the liquor store. Seems like it would be a good time to start drinking.

Because, basically, we will all be fucked.
