Ok folks, just went over to Chicano Park to give them some
food (baby food... usually short in these things), women supplies, depends, and of course water

You know the stuff that most folks don't think off

Trust me, the shelters can use this stuff

Oh and they will take volunteers tomorrow to help with this

I said I would... but damn it, reaching for the inhaler... so I'd not add to any casualties

Damn I'm old.. and feel useless

Used to do this damn it!

So if you want to volunteer and are healthy, and can... there you have it

1. You're awesome!
It's nice to know there are people like you out there when something like this happens. It restores some of my faith in humanity. You're definitely not useless or old if you can still reach out to others in need.

3. Well it is just taht in my twenties I did this
disaster work (and every day EMS) with the Red Cross in Tijuana

Has't been that long, really

But the last five years... all them genes are coming home to roost

Just from being there for thirty minutes I started wheezing...

Now what was surreal was driring back through downtown. them restaurants are full

I know it is the tourist district, but still ... surreal

15. Not just tourists in the tourist district...
...also lots of people fleeing the fire. As a matter of fact, things are so crowded that my mother, who had been at one of the hotels Monday night, had to find alternate lodgings tonight because a convention starting today had pre-booked whichever few rooms were left by the time she got there.

5. Angel Wings
You sweet thang-I know exactly where you're coming from; spirit terribly willing, body's a wreck (in a manner of speaking).

Maybe besides putting a more high-profile thread out there on DU, you could spread some information around about the shelter locations and what they'll be needing most? Go see what's happening on the California board, especially?

Best wishes...

9. Are people in bad shape, enough so that we should drive down from LA to help?
I thought about it, but I figure that getting on the road to san diego wasn't a good idea right now, that they probably need the roads free. But if we're needed, we can go.

10. No, the local disaster is well taken care off so far
people are volunteering like you have no idea

And at least at the Q, they are sending in a DMAT team...so even that will be taken care off

From years of doing this for the Red Cross in TJ... so far I'd give them a nine

(Of course now that politics is creeping in...)

13. Malibu is doing better. At least that is the general feeling. Up at Lake Arrowhead is not
so good. The roads are closed anyway from here to there. But san diego is much more serious than here.

14. Wel as people start going home
and on with their lives, that is when volunteers are also going to be needed.

:-(

Human nature, as long as it is on the teevee... people want to help, but once it is off the teevee... people forget

And that is when really helping becomes critical

17. Damn! You're a *really* cool chick!
If our 'fire season' burns 1000 acres it's a bad one.

If you ever get to Md or DC look me up!
