The smoke clouds can be seen here in Phoenix.
I walked out the door, and off on the horizon, low and long after the sun just set was what I thought was cloud front for a moment. Then I realized that it was the smoke high in the atmosphere. It was all along the western horizon. The rest of the sky was completely clear.

All you Californians we are all pulling for you here, you San Diegans put up with us so much in the summers. Take care and good thoughts, and hope the winds stop.

1. I wondered this...
First saw the band of smoke this morning (it's darker, hazier than regular clouds), and figured it was a local fire. But tonight it hung there still, hazy and low over the mountains. It's smoke, indeed. I thought that since the Santa Anna winds blow west, we wouldn't see it here in Phoenix, but I'm starting to wonder.

2. Will you get prettier sunsets because of it? The awful fires are strangely beautiful.
Sad, ravaging, horrifying, menacing, deadly, but really pretty from afar.

3. See, who says Californians are self-centered and never share

Our ash and smoke is your ash and smoke.

4. I'm wondering what all that smoke..
is doing to the people who have to breathe the air. A few years ago fires in Mexico produced smoke that blew into the Dallas metroplex for a few days and left us with a temporarily hazy sky. It wasn't even very thick, but my breathing was effected.

Between that and the fire retardant chemicals being dumped everywhere, I hope Southern Californians won't be facing serious health complications.

5. Wow! That's amazing considering the Santa Ana winds
are blowing from east to west out into the ocean.

Actually, now that I think about it, the smoke probably does switch directions and shoots east once it reaches the jet stream. :dunce:
