In 3 months the world will have a new citizen... with a terrible start in life
Edited on Wed Oct-24-07 01:37 AM by SoCalDem
I had dinner with my best friend tonight, and she was telling me about the saga of one of her employees..

This woman's 14 year old daughter is 6 months pregnant.. The "baby-daddy" was supposedly a 17 yr old she met at school..

this girl has also never seen a doctor at all for her pregnancy.. She has starved herself to "keep from showing" much..

Mom & step-dad went ballistic and confronted the soon to be other grandma, who blithely informed them that her son is 21 and "already HAS a 3 yr old"..and he has a steady girlfriend who is also pregnant.. he admitted that he had sex with her, but claims she told HIM she was 16, and since he told HER he was 17, it was "no big deal"..

The Mom is here on a visa (legal) and is married to a US citizen, but she's afraid of police (She's from Turkey), so she's not going to go to the police..

The 14 yr old seems to think that "everything's gonna be ok", and doesn;t see what the big fuss is all about..

WTF is wrong with these kids..and their parents?

and this poor little baby will be born to a child, with a grandmother who is afraid of her husband and the police, and an asshole for a father.

the "guy" is unemployed and goes to school occasionally.

2. There's just one problem

Girls like her probably wouldn't bother using it, anyway. Kids are pretty irresponsible at that age. :(

3. I'd love to see the guy in JAIL, but the soon-to-be grandma is scared
to call the cops..

I told my friend that the social services may do it themselves once they see what her age is..

She just turned 14, and he's already 21..and the mother of his 3 yr old was younger than he was when the baby was born (he was 18 then)..

The guy is a pervert..

6. Statutory rape. 14????
Neither the girl nor her mother has anything to say about it, I think. That worthless lunk committed a crime.

Seems to me the mother is setting herself up as some kind of accessory after the fact. She knows what happened and she knows who did it...and she didn't know her kid wasn't eating?

One DNA sample and that boy's in jail. The mother? I dunno.

4. The kids involved are just ignorant.

I'm not trying to downplay any individual suffering, but statistically speaking there is more help for people in these situations out in states like California and Massachusetts than there is in states like Texas or my state of Mississippi. We have, by far, the worst record as far as teen pregnancy goes and lack of social programs to help.

Edited to add: Personally, I think the baby will grow up and inherit the same habits as its parents. If our parents are the primary shaper of who we are, then unless there is intervention, this child's future will be, frankly, no future.

9. If the baby lives.
From experience working with pregnant teens. At her age, the cards are stacked against the baby even if she'd had proper nutrition and prenatal care. Not just for the baby but for her. (Complications of pregnancy in early teenage are a bit higher than they are in 50 year olds) Add improper nutrition, no prenatal care and you've got the setup for a severely low birth weight, or even stillborn baby.

7. Granny is afraid of her husband?
WHAT IS HE GOING TO DO ABOUT A PREGNANT 14 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER? Seriously...where are they planning to stash that ill-nourished infant?

This situation is beginning to sound dangerous.

who's been told that if he gets "tired of her", he'll divorce her, get her deported and keep their 6 yr old .. The 14 yr old is hers from her first marriage in Turkey (she was a widow)..

It IS a grim story..

10. Why is there something "wrong"?
This shit has happened throughout human history. Explore the legal avenues available if there seems to be a statutory crime. (sounds likely). There are many options and choices available at this point.

11. Is adoption an option?
The dad should be in prison.

The mom should be in high school.

The parents of BOTH those kids should be in therapy.

But, there is no reason that a child should have to grow up with all the familial challenges. The baby should be in a loving home, where he or she will be cherished as a blessing.
