I've come to the conclusion we are in a generational fight and we are the weaker movement in this fight. Neoliberalism and neoconservatism are too closely related, so the neoliberal think tanks are more attuned to this idea of mixing private with the public in shared power. In order to fight what I see as a capitalist form of totalitarianism on the horizon, the opposition must be strongly united and strong enough for some sort of push back. Waiting for a white knight to come to the rescue is a strategy for failure. Timidity is the enemy in such a fight. We must somehow take the reins our forefathers left us. We are dealing with powers with little or no accountability and loyalties that are not center to a healthy democracy. The biggest threat I see is this new security and spy industry being built through private means and hiding under the cloak of secrecy and ideological think tanks. This is a recipe for disaster.
1. When I try to think of what the founders left us
I come up with their statements that people need to change the government if it doesn't suit them anymore.
But yeah, I don't know how to do that yet. Sometimes I think they had it easier - King George was a less formidable enemy than the corporations that we face, plus he was on the other side of the Atlantic. It's not like they had pro-monarchy propaganda thrown at them constantly, and even if they had it would have been in print and so they would have had to think about it and reason about it as opposed to being zombie-fied by TV. And they had sort of created their own society here and had the stability from which to reach out to fight. The monolithic corporations are a deeply embedded part of our lives and many of us are slaves to them.
I've gotta go to work now. Hopefully this thread will have some ideas later.
