5. You can bet that O'Reilly and his ilk will LABEL this peaceful middle aged woman as Public Enemy #1.
Edited on Wed Oct-24-07 09:37 AM by ShortnFiery
Oh, how dangerous those non-violent resisters are in Code Pink as well as other socialistic organizations like Pax Christi.

I can almost hear O'Reilly, Hannity and Beck screeching now: "Arrest and detain all these middle-aged WHORES for PEACE! And *For The Love Of God* - be sure to physically muss them up a little too in order to give them something to "think about" before doing it again. :nuke: :sarcasm:

55. Peaceful? Hardly.
And let's not get carried away with the "mussing them up a little." She knew her actions would have consequences, and she knew she would be forced to suffer those consequences.

Civil disobedience has its place. By and large, Code Pink has been pretty good about raising hell in a controlled fashion. Wrapping "blood soaked" hands around the Secretary of State's head crossed a lot of lines.

The voters stated their voices peacefully last November. We were promised a new direction. Hardly could we believe it would be to start another war. Now that is crossing the line.

115. I don't disagree. If the Dem-controlled Congress had taken any action at all...
... this would not be happening.

This is sympotmatic of what happens when people feel they have no leadership that represents them: they take matters into their own hands. It's natural, but it's dangerous.

When you have a discussion with people who only lie and are killing hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians, it is wrong to paint your hands and tell them what they are doing. I mean, you are supposed to wear a suit instead, listen to all the lies, and after shake their hands and have a fucking tea party.

Eventually, people decided it was a cause worth dying for, and they died in significant numbers.

However, when people feel unrepresented and are passionate in their frustrations, bad things happen.

My hope is that our "revolution" is accomplished by getting rid of every incumbant in November 2008. No exceptions.

Edited on Thu Oct-25-07 11:31 AM by hiphopnation23
but is that where we have to get before we act? you would seem to think so. i'd rather not wait until that point.

is there a case to be made that "loonies" like code pink may have paid attention to the same historical nuances and parallels drawn here and are maybe trying to prevent us from getting to the point where we have to die "in significant numbers" again? is it a waiting game we're engaged in here? is it possible that this action, i.e., this expression of free speech, was meant to intimidate, to show the secretary of state that at least a few citizens out there DO NOT APPROVE of her actions. or perhaps it was a simple reminder: "you have blood on your hands, Condi". Pretty damned effective statement, if you ask me, if that was indeed her aim.

whatever the case, i concede that it does provide warm fuzzy feelings if nothing else. doesn't it just feel damned good to look at those pictures?!?! that alone is worth it to me, and i applaud that woman.

if it's viewed as some as lunacy, i submit that the "loony" behavior exhibited here is on par with the behavior of condi and the rest of the cabal for the past seven years. and at the very least it serves as a statement to remind people of that, especially condi.

43. Wow, that video is frightening...
...I guess it got to the security detail when they realized how badly they'd been breached (by that oh, so dangerous activist with painted hands) -- so they had to strongarm all the Code Pink ladies right out of the room, and none too gently either.

On the other hand, the pictures you posted are equally frightening, especially the smiling Condi right after the incident. Although I must say, if you have watched Condi over the years, you can see that her smiling face is not the usual facade -- she's shook up, and overcompensating.

Anyway, I know people love to hate activists for "stunts" like this. And as with everything, there are lines to be drawn. In this case, however, I think the tactics were justifiable, and certainly resulted in some worthwhile photos that graphically say what we all know to be true: everyone in this administration has blood on their hands.

59. actually it forces the MSM to mainline the story that.....
...there is so much discontent out here, that it has stimulated another generation to protest openly and agressively. This aspect has been played down in the MSM. When Sheehans protest at Crawford was covered it was always at an angle to accentuate the few participants there, whereas the Crawfor Crawfish counter demonstration always resembled hundreds.

No, as futile as it may seem, and is when used as a direct attempt at changing those in power minds, it is very effective in magnifying the cause to the public.

85. For more effective protests: here's how to make fake blood!
Since Democrats won't do anything, confronting people like Rice, Bush and the like must be done with a simulation of the liquid they spill for real. Like this one from our British friends:

Corn Syrup Blood

This is the recipe that pretty much everyone uses, and there's a lot of variations so feel free to experiment.

* 16 oz. White corn syrup (Karo syrup - this is a US product, but adding golden syrup does the job just as well, alternatively just mix sugar and water and reduce on the stove until it becomes syrupy)
* 1 oz. red food coloring
* 1 oz. washing detergent
* 1 oz. water

Add a drop of blue food colouring to create a more realistic colour. Remove the washing up liquid if you want to make edible blood. Adding condensed milk makes it less transparent and more like real blood.

The blood is extremely sticky and can stain skin and clothes so makes sure its washed off quickly. Use a stain remover on clothes.

There's even more formulas at:

http://www.exposure.co.uk/eejit/blood/blood.html

105. $$we get from Iraq $$ it cost to get it. Now we do the same in Iran.
Picked this up from Glenn Greenwald's sight at salon .com from his guest blogger. Check out a few paragraphs:

"...As Jim Holt put it in a recent article in the London Review of Books:

"Iraq has 115 billion barrels of known oil reserves. That is more than five times the total in the United States. And, because of its long isolation, it is the least explored of the world's oil-rich nations. A mere two thousand wells have been drilled across the entire country; in Texas alone there are a million. It has been estimated, by the Council on Foreign Relations, that Iraq may have a further 220 billion barrels of undiscovered oil; another study puts the figure at 300 billion. If these estimates are anywhere close to the mark, U.S. forces are now sitting on one quarter of the world's oil resources. The value of Iraqi oil, largely light crude with low production costs, would be of the order of $30 trillion at today's prices. For purposes of comparison, the projected total cost of the U.S. invasion/occupation is around $1 trillion."

Or as I put it in a post on Holt's article, the Bush gang is "now set to reap a windfall of up to $30 trillion that will maintain the American elite's whip-hand over the world for generations to come. And all it cost was a measly $1 trillion in taxpayer money, a few thousand pieces of lower-class cannon fodder from the U.S. military -- and the lives of hundreds of thousands of innocent people in Iraq: an excellent return on investment for Bush-Cheney Inc. and their cronies."

The war against Iran will be a further investment, securing not only the Iraqi acquisition but adding considerably to the dominated reserves. (And don't forget that war -- any war -- enriches another key constituency of the political class: the weapons and "military servicing" industries. Indeed, the military-industrial complex is now so predominant that war and threats of war are indispensable engines for economic growth. The whole system, as it is now constituted, would simply collapse if the militarist shark didn't keep moving and feeding.)..."

More at salon .com but you can see what the WH is doing and why.

109. This is why the show must have such dramatic visual presentations
Rice and her bosses see it all as names and numbers on paper and words in their brains. They need to be covered in blood with dollar bills stuck to their bodies and oil dripping from their hair to grasp the reality of the insane policies that masquerade death, destruction, and torture as elements of democracy and a great nation.

But they will never see it as anything except personal liberal attacks. The nation is about to come unraveled at the frustration and failure of our leaders to do anything about the present Bush situation, which includes State dept and Rice, over the Iraq fiasco that the blood of well over a million Iraqis and Americans covers us in shame and yet it continues while those in power act as if their hands are clean and innocent. They need to see it up close and personal to get the point.

If there are 5 1/2 quarts of blood in the human body and multiply that by one million three thousand eight hundred it would equal 1,003,800 X 5.5 = enough blood to cover the republicans and many democrats engaged in this war profiteering for oil with no regard for human life. DC is swimming in blood while not suffering a scratch. Add to that torture, rendition, and imprisonment how could anyone possibly call this a Christian nation, a nation under God, with liberty and justice for all? Thank God this administration, Bush & co. republicans, don't represent the majority of Americans. How much longer till we are rid of them? I want my country back.

112. 24%
Here's the reality folks. It does not matter that she was arrested along with some other Code Pink ladies. ONLY 24% support the selected queenie SELECTED prez bush. Yeah, sure the DC police acted FASCIST. But really folks, we have A LOT to be thankful to CODE PINK (and why I'm at it, MOVEON.ORG too!) These groups do a lot more than we do, God bless our good intentions. We type and type, send letters, emails and even call our DC reps. But these women have ACTIONS and are leading the way to getting our Democracy and government back. We could learn a lot from them, God bless them.

Again, think about it. What you see in the video may seem like FASCIST type tactics to "scare" Code Pink and us, but it won't work. The US government who have stole elections are in the MINORITY even despite the fact that we have ROLLOVER Dems like Reid and that SKANK pelosi acting like republicons. They have ONLY 24% support! It's not like the 1st war like Afghanistan or the 2nd like Iraq. NOW the majority of Americans are with us.

And what they did to this lady who was exercising her 1st amendment right is VERY simple:

they only helped the 24% supporting bush become EVEN smaller!

Living it and loving it!

GOD BLESS YOU CODE PINK!
I'm lighting an incense in your honor!

How about some respect? There are ways and forums in which to
express yourself. This accomplishes nothing but rouse the
people who are roused anyway. The Dems elected in 06 have the
power to stop the war now. Why not rub some blood on them?

And I wish these Code Pink 'ladies' would stop claiming they
are doing this for the 'troops'...ALL VOLUNTEER ARMED FORCES,
people. Everyone there is there because they have chosen to
serve in the military.

Don't forget about the good things we are doing there. These
code pink ladies should be thinking about all the men, women,
children and babies we saved and are saving over there...

Our military are heroes and George Bush is the greatest
president our nation has ever seen.

of her 'shoe shopping trips' and totally ineffectual/toadying polices at Dept. of State. No One has ever called 'Little Star' out on her great rise to fame at the hand and knees of the Bushies.

It's time someone showed her how she is viewed...outside the Department Store Window by Americans who are onto her "game and fame."
