How low is a 24% Approval Rating? Some referrence (funny!)
Edited on Wed Oct-24-07 11:32 AM by Mugsy
Via "Mugsy's Rap Sheet":

...Percent of Americans Believe... - - Putting Bush's approval rating in context.

President Bush's approval rating has been in the toilet for more than a year now... down from 51% when he "won" reelection with in 2004.

The most recent Reuters/Zogby poll announced that President Bush's approval rating is now a dismal 24%. The low 20's appears to be the absolute floor for Bush loyalists that would have to see him shooting kittens in the face on live TV before they even START to consider not supporting him. Such rabid devotion beyond reason falls solidly in the fanatical.

Air America Radio's Thom Hartman made a comment in passing Monday morning to illustrate the point of just how low 24% really is. Following up on his theme, I researched a few figures of my own:

80% of Americans believe the government is hiding evidence UFO's have visited Earth.
60% of Americans can't name five of the Ten Commandments.
45% of Americans believe the Earth is only 10,000 years old.
44% of Americans with a high school education or less believe that Saddam was involved with 9/11, vs 20% of those who attended college.
39% of Americans believe they are among "the wealthiest 1% of Americans".
37% of Americans believe in Haunted Houses.
31% of Americans believe in Astrology (horoscopes). 27% in reincarnation.
26.2% of Americans suffer from a diagnosable mental disorder.
...

Read the rest on "Mugsy's Rap Sheet". Enjoy! :)

5. I've noticed the disproportionate number of people who think they are rich
and I would be willing to bet that 80% or more of the 39% who think they are in the top 1% of wealth are Republicans.

My wife calls them $40,000 Millionaires, which is a hilariously apt name.

6. Well if you take
your Social Security income of say $18,000 per year and compare that to the interest rate for a passbook savings account you would worth $1.8 million.
Then you add your share of the (unfunded liability) Medicare program, now you are rolling in the dough! Now if you are really interested in determining just how wealthy you are, just place your single-wide in Beverly Hills for comparison and add that in.

Your cup runneth over! Which is why you should send a check to Pat Robertson right away.

8. The Devil Is In The Details
Depends on what they are thinking when they say "rich".

Look at the American standard of living as a whole and compare it to many third world countries. If you view it from that angle, then we certainly do have a lot of mega-wealthy individuals in this country.

Without the hugemongous personal dept that we've created for ourselves and the stress that's always associated with that, we might actually be considered some form of Shangri-La...

Our house's are huge and beautiful from the outside, but our uncertainty and fear are killing us from within.

10. 80% believe the gov't is hiding ufo evidence?
*That* surprises. I would not expect that many believe in alien life in this country, let alone ufos tootling around.

11. I always found it incredible that...
...45% don't believe in evolution. That's just wacko to me, like we just sprung out of nowhere!

The 39% who think they are among "the wealthiest 1% of Americans" is also hilarious.
