Edited on Wed Oct-24-07 01:37 PM by Kurovski
She has posted what's happened to her and her family in the Election Reform Forum. I did a search to see if there are any other posts, but so far this is the only one I find today "Tragedy & Clarity-Ramblings From San Diego":

14. Its true.
About 14 years ago, my parents' house burned down, the night after my 18th birthday.
My sister - 12 at the time - crawled past the room that was on fire to wake me up.
We called to our mother through the smoke, and we all met downstairs in the kitchen.
My other sister and my father had already left for work, but they were home in about 20 minutes.
We all stood together and watched the house fall apart.

I didn't grab a thing on my way out; my only concern had been my other sister.
My baby sister's only concern was for me.
And our mother could only think of us.

These last wildfires came close to us (Santa Clarita); a nearby town had a voluntary evacuation, and my husband had driven to work past flames and through smoke.

I had all day to pack the car, in case we had to leave.
Our computer, some papers, some photos.
I was so calm.
None of the stuff mattered.
I walked through my house, thinking it would be awful if it burned down, but knowing that I would be okay.

My husband was safe.
My pets were ready to be crated.
My family was calling all day, ready to pass on any bit of news to everyone else.

You can recover from a fire.
Takes a long time, some struggle...
But it makes you realize just how important the people in your life are.

Good luck to kpete, and all of the other San Diegans and Californians out here.

If I hadn't read this already, news about kpete and her family would have been the first thing I'd want to look up.

:grouphug: for kpete!
