Valerie Plame Wilson: Executive Privilege and Its Selective Application
The primary means by which BushCo covers its tracks and avoids revealing the details of questionable behavior is to invoke executive privilege for every person currently or formerly employed by the executive branch. We've heard the rationale, and it sounds like this: "We need to be able to consult advisors and consultants who will speak openly and frankly about their opinions and interpretations. They would be far less inclined to do this without the protection of anonymity."

Compare that to a quote from Valerie Plame Wilson, on Fresh Air yesterday, commenting about being outed by the Bush administration:

"For potential future human sources of intelligence who might want to cooperate with the United States's government, they've taken a look at this case and say, 'Why should I jeopardize my safety and that of my family? They can't even protect one of their own.'"

Although I've only heard the interview on Fresh Air, I'm guessing that it all has been compelling.
