Both CNN and MSNBC are reporting these numbers. That's about $900 per home.

Am I missing something?

9. That's correct, and if it seems high
don't forget that a lot of businesses have burned, also.

3. You are missing math skills
:hi:

One billion is 1,000,000,000. 1,110 homes makes a mean average of about 909,090.91, which sounds about right.

4. Either my glasses are dirty or your math is fuzzy too.
$900 per home @ 1100 homes destroyed = $990,000

It costs a lot of money to have a natural disaster.

5. Yup, you are. Three zeros.
1100 x 900 = 990,000, three orders of magnitude less than a billion

10. Homes destroyed + homes damaged
May also include commercial structures lost and damaged, but it's hard to tell without more info.

1300 homes is the number referenced in NorCal papers at the moment.

16. Still...a billion seems very a small number....
Not jsut the homes, most of which have to be around 500,00 each. But the cost to the fire Departments, the police, the crop loss etc.

Not to mention that all the people that ae displaced are not out buying stuff and are missing work time..
At the same time, this will be a boon to Home Depot and other building suppy places, contractors, and home building concerns.
