Draft Gore fails to get enough signitures to get on MI ballot, now supporters want caucus
To get Al Gore's name on the Michigan ballot, supporters had to collect 12,396 valid signitures by Tuesday, but collected only about 3,000. Draft Al Gore is now petitioning the Michigan Democratic Party to cancel the primary and hold a caucus in an effort to collect delegates for Gore.

Michigan Draft Gore only started to get it together about mid September - what with the announcement of an early primary in Michigan.

The organizers went from 4 or 5 volunteers to 150 or so by early/mid October.

The deadline for signatures - all required 12,396 of 'em - was Oct 23rd.

All and all that was about 2-3 weeks of serious petitioning (maybe 75 folks petitioning vigorously).

It was a good effort all and all, we got around 3000 or so.

As called for by the DLC, all Democratic candidates - except Hillary - have called off on Michigan's primary (with the exception of Kucinich - his cancellation notice arrived late).

Seems some folks from the Michigan Democratic Party decided they wanted some of Iowa and New Hampshire's spotlight, and moved Michigan's primary to the earlier date of Jan 15th.

The DNC said 'nope' and everybody dropped out (excepting Billary), rightfully so.

That leaves only Hillary on the Michigan's ballot for the primaries.

Michigan Draft Gore is joining with Obama and Edwards supporters (among others) in Michigan to strongly encourage the Michigan Democratic Party and its Chair Mark Brewer to opt out of the January 15 primary and return to a DNC-sanctioned caucus date on February 5 or February 9, and it looks as though it's going to happen.

13. When did the DLC call for candidates not to participate in the Michigan primary?
Can you back this up?

5. Your post is ass-clownery - being that you don't know what the fuck your talking about:
As called for by the DLC, all Democratic candidates - except Hillary - have called off on Michigan's primary (with the exception of Kucinich - his cancellation notice arrived late).

Seems some folks from the Michigan Democratic Party decided they wanted some of Iowa and New Hampshire's spotlight, and moved Michigan's primary to the earlier date of Jan 15th.

9. I know this, the OP says that the draft gore people are "now petitioning
the Michigan Democratic Party to cancel the primary and hold a caucus

in an effort to collect delegates for Gore.

That would be the ass-clownery part.

Everything else in your response is common knowledge and a non sequitur.

That would be the stupid part.

Also, everyone else you mentioned in your response is actually running for President.

And that would be the factual part.

6. What's this? Michigan might lose convention delegates regardless?
"A number of Democratic activists and local leaders have called for the party to abandon the primary, which is earlier than allowed under party rules; as a result, Michigan may lose its national convention delegates."

So the primary is earlier than the party allows? Who decided when to hold the primary? Don't they read the fuckin' rules???

11. Jennifer Granholm did it.
Along with some other yahoos in the state congress.

State grabs 1st primary
Jan. 15 presidential vote set, but other states may go earlier

Michigan leaped to the head of the presidential primary lineup Thursday, setting a Jan. 15 election that could become the biggest primary in state history and a key battleground for the Republican and Democratic nominations.

But Michigan's move -- supported by large majorities in the state House and Senate and backed by Gov. Jennifer Granholm -- will almost certainly be countered by other states, especially Iowa and New Hampshire, which are intent on preserving their traditional primacy in the presidential selection process.

Assuming Granholm approves the measure as expected, Michigan -- for now -- would have the first primary and third nominating contest, behind caucuses for Wyoming Republicans on Jan. 5 and for both parties Jan. 14 in Iowa.

Lawmakers supporting the move said it was crucial that Michigan concerns be placed on the national agenda and before the presidential candidates as soon as possible.

Being that this was announced in late August, and the deadline (huge amount of signatures - 12,396) to get Gore on the ballot was Oct 23rd, Michigan's DraftGore movement didn't have much time to mobilize, let alone get the required amount of sigs.

And now only Hillary remains on the ballot IF the MDP decides to follow through - which is ridiculous.

10. So much for the huge demand there is for him to run
On the Internet he looks like the presumptive nominee, but in the real world he is not.
