4. There are links at that site that are from the people fighting the fires
in some , they are begging for more help, and acknowledging that they just cannot get a handle on it.. and while looking at the site the other night, I found a firefighters' wives' blog too..

A lot of people don;t know that some of these firefighters have had their own houses burn down, and they were not evcen able to help their wives & kids evacuate..

8. And it joined the Poomacha.
So my sister can't go home. Because the house is still there today, but if the Witch changes her mind?

2. The Camp Pendleton fire is named Ammo?
I find this disconcerting.

9. Wouldn't that be hysterically breaking news?
Maybe this explains it: <http://www.slate.com/id/2176567/>

"Among the fires burning in Southern California are the Poomacha Fire, the Ammo Fire, the Magic Fire, and the Witch Fire. Who picks these names?

In general, naming rights go to the group that makes the "initial attack" on a fire, whether it's a squadron of local firefighters or a team from the U.S. Forest Service. (In contrast, every tropical storm in the Atlantic gets its name from a single organization.) The commander on the scene often uses a nearby geographical feature to describe the fire, but he's not bound by any official rules. (For more on how a wildfire gets its name, read this Explainer from 2005.)"

Witch Fire

"Fire Behavior: The fire is heading to Carmel Mountain Ranch 4-S Ranch."

-that's the area where my brother lives!

Damnit, damnit, damnit!!!!!

We can only hope. ;(

Edit- Thanks for posting this, SoCalDem.
I've been waiting for an update on this fire.

My heart goes out to everyone who lost a home/ business
anywhere in these fires.

We've been waiting for two days now to see if my brother's place
burned down. He was evacuated Monday. It doesn't look good.

7. I am getting very worried about my friend up in Agua Dulce (Buckweed Fire).
The fire started a mile north of her house, from what I can tell. She has 4 horses and three cats and a nice house. I hope they got out and the house is ok.

I left a message on her phone but I don't know if it's voicemail or an answering machine - if the house burned I think her voicemail would still work??

13. I just heard from my friend in Agua Dulce. They are fine. They didn't
have to evacuate - the fire there started just a mile north of their house, but the winds at the time were gale-force from the ENE, so they dodged a bullet. If the fire had started a mile E of where it did, it would have been another story entirely.

The water-dropping helicopters were flying steadily at VERY VERY low antitude over her house - they were getting water at the Agua Dulce airpark and then heading over her place to the drop just a couple miles away. The horses were really coming unglued for quite a while because of it, two of the screaming and whinnying frantically every time a copter would go over.

NEW: HIGHWAY 94 CORRIDOR EVACUATION ADVISEMENT
5:17 p.m. - Residents living along the Highway 94 corridor are being advised to prepare for evacuations. The turning onshore flow has moved the Harris Fire to the northeast, threatening structures from Jamul to the east and to the Jamacha community to the west.

16. The San Diego county fires are slowly moving east and north, which is the reverse
of the first 3 days, when they generally moved west. They are moving much more slowly now that the wind has died down, and they are moving in a different direction. The Harris fire is moving slowly towards the land that Blackwater wants to build on.
