Whenever possible I've posted websites and not phone numbers because you can get a LOT of info off these sites and without tying up phone lines. Also - most sites ask everyone not to go to evacauation sites and just drop stuff off without checking on what they actually need first - don't assume before you go, space is limited and they don't want to wind up with extra materials to store or materials that they don't need when another center does need them instead.

13. Regarding the Animals
SPCA Los Angeles and San Diego Humane Society/SPCA do not need assistance at this time. This is confirmed; I have been in touch with both agencies (I'm on-call for emergency veterinary services). Both agencies have wish lists posted on their sites, and are requesting donations of either money or items on their wish lists.

San Diego Humane Society/SPCA's website is the main source of information for evacuees with animals; please do not overload the site with traffic, and do not tie up the phone line.

The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) deployed 20 disaster response teams on Sunday and are not in need of assistance.

Right now there's an overload of volunteers in almost every area (not just animal stuff). DO NOT just show up to volunteer.

Screw the Red Cross...I really, really don't like them. If you like them, good for you; I don't like them.

The best way to help the animals is wish list items and money. Animal assistance stuff is always short of money.

:)

14. Good to know!!
I'm glad that they have too many volunteers - better than not enough. But you're right - people shouldn't just show up - it confuses the efforts and might even slow things down (congested roads, people having to answer questions instead of do their job, etc). It's certainly well-meaning, but the best thing to do is be sure they need you or your donations before you go. I was hoping that some, like me, who aren't in CA would be able to donate money too - that's always in short supply at times like these.

And, certainly animal rescue groups can ALWAYS uses supplies! There's never ever enough of those.
