Another vote on SCHIP??
I just received this email:
Is Congress ready to crack on children's health care?

President Bush just asked Congress for $46 billion more for the Iraq War. With numbers like this, it's getting harder and harder for Congress to defend the White House's veto of $35 billion for SCHIP.

There may be another vote on SCHIP in the House as early as tomorrow. We've asked you to call in the past -- but if we're ever going to get this bill signed, we need you to call again now:

http://www.cancampaign.org/schip

Americans United for Change is part of the multi-million dollar Campaign to Save Children's Healthcare. Our coalition has spent more than $1.5 million on SCHIP ads targeting more than 20 members of Congress, and has held more than 500 SCHIP-related events across the country.

The most important part of this campaign is your voice. Congressmembers may try to ignore our events and ads, but they can't ignore the voices of their constituents.

Even if you've already called your Representative before, please take two minutes to call again now:

Thank you for your help!

Sincerely,

Jeremy Funk
Americans United for Change

Has anyone else heard this? If it's true, it's sure worth a few more phone calls. (My worthless Rep., Peter F*ckin' King chose not to vote... That means he's feeling the heat)

1. The whole story should be, if the Dem's had any real media sense...
$ 46 billion for troops only when $ 35 billion is earmarked for kids...

Attach the SCHIP as a rider to the fucking request for more spending on war...

4. Correction -- $46 billion for no-bid KBR/Blackwater contracts when $35 billion is earmarked for kids
Credit where credit is due.

2. House to reintroduce SCHIP bill ‘as early as this week.
House Democrats will bring the widely-supported SCHIP bill “back to the floor as early as this week,” with relatively few changes from the version that President Bush vetoed. Campaign for America’s Future has a new video featuring children with a message for President Bush and conservatives opposing an SCHIP expansion: “No health care for us, no photo ops for you.” Watch it:

The White House indicated today that it is willing to “shift” and allow “states to cover children up to 300% of the federal poverty level. … The administration previously opposed legislation permitting states to cover children above the 200% level

Dems' SCHIP to again set sail, perhaps this week

6. It is also important to note that the 35 billion for SCHIP is spread out over 5 years
which comes to 7 billion a year which is less than Bushco spends in Iraq in a month.

5. I say they bring the same
piece of legislation back again and again and attach it to every bill * wants and dare him to veto it. If the man who holds the president's office wants anything done, eventually he'll have to sign this piece of legislation so that he can get on with the rest of his term. If he keeps vetoing the legislation, however, you keep a record of the republicans who voted against more insurance for children and hold the ones who are fighting for their seats in the next election to the fire on this issue. Furthermore I hope they, in implementing such a policy, scream what they intend to do from the highest mountaintop. That way you could pick off more republican representatives until the man who holds the president's office gets his veto overridden.

Works for me.
