Well, two interesting poll results.
I posted a poll asking if people here at DU thinks we need to replace Nancy Pelosi as Speaker of the House. The poll got no recs, but had 189 votes cast. Of those 189, only SEVENTEEN said Nancy was doing a good job, and should keep it.

That's a 90% to 10% split AGAINST Pelosi, after over 24 hours.

The second poll was to ask whether Ben Nelson or Chuck Hagel was the better Senator, or equally bad or good.

The poll only garnered 22 votes, but of those 22, 11 said that HAGEL was better than Nelson, and 11 said they were equally bad. NOT ONE voted to say the DEMOCRATIC SENATOR was better than the REPUBLICAN ONE.

So much for the "ANY Democrat is better than ANY Republican theory."

And, it seems that a BIG bunch of DUers are very displeased with the current Speaker of the House.

But, hey, who are we to be listened to by our elected leaders?

1. Nebraska is in a unique position. Yes, we do have a democratic
Senator. Unfortunately he supports this administration about 95% of the time. Hagel, while being a phoney elitist hack is against the war. Nothing else. Just the war.

What choice is there?

3. Good thing for Pelosi that she's not running for Representative of DU. NT

5. I think it's more than just DUers who are disappointed . . .
Not in Pelosi per se -- since she's always been brittle and a total pol, but in the general ineffectiveness and spinelessness of the new "Democratic Majority" congress.

6. If their regional parties are unhappy with them, they can replace them in the next primary.
That's how it works. We nominate and then elect people, and they get a limited time in which to gain re-election or not.

7. But even for freshmen, the power of incumbency is extremely potent . . .
And the party greybeards'd rather run a right-leaning incumbent than kick him/her out to face the dreaded "open seat." Especially when everyone agrees Dems need a supermajority or they'll never learn to walk upright again.

Pernicious, no?

8. Incumbency is certainly an advantage. But it's not invulnerability - especially if
the constituents are as unhappy as some claim. I've seen two major shifts in the last couple of decades when voters really want change.

But the more pertinent point, to my thinking, is that it is up to the constituents of those districts. It's not up to angry voters in other states. It's not up to DU. And while a DU poll might be indicative of DUers (or more likely of a small population of active DUers), it really doesn't mean anything regarding the primaries much less the GE.
