WHO IS WITH ME???
lately, i have been seeing a lot of threads being posted about despair and depression. especially over the infighting. and of course the blows from the repuke candidates continue to add up with the pathetic "democratic congress" doing absolutely nothing to stop it.
- * wants more money
- stark is slandered by the democratic majority
- no action or headway is being made in iraq
- our govt falls further into the hands of corporations
- attacks on candidates (especially on DU) seem worse and worse
- telecom immunity
- justices and their views
- the shredding of the US constitution
- the power of the MSM, and it's hideousness

and a lot of people have been getting depressed. now i have a statement and then a question for all of the people out there who proclaim to be getting weary of it all, who say that one day they might just give it in. so here goes.

This country was built on certain principles. It was the only one founded out of reason and liberty rather than some middle age wars waged in europe. this country stood for something, it meant something. it stood for freedom, a shining beacon of light, an example. it was the famed "city on a hill"

I DONT WANT TO GIVE IT UP. *'s DISTORTIONS JUST GET ME ANGRIER. I AM NOT READY TO GIVE IN, NOT READY TO LEAVE. I INTEND TO FIGHT FOR THIS COUNTRY, FOR THE IDEALS THAT IT ONCE STOOD FOR. I AM A VERY LIBERAL PROGRESSIVE AND I FUCKING LOVE MY COUNTRY FOR WHAT IT ONCE MEANT. I AM NOT GOING TO LET THE REPUKES AND THE CORPORATIONS TEAR IT FROM ME. I SHALL NOT GO TO WAR IF ASKED, BUT I WILL DAMN BLEED TO KEEP FIGHTING IF I HAVE TO. I HAVE HAD ENOUGH OF THIS DEPRESSING SHIT. THIS IS OUR COUNTRY, FOR WE, THE PEOPLE.

SO WHO THE HELL IS WITH ME?
WHO THE HELL IS GOING TO FIGHT FOR OUR FUTURES AND THE FUTURE OF THE WORLD?

3. I'm 65 and I have been fighting and fighting
I was born right after Pearl Harbor was bombed. I was in school during Korean "Conflict," I was so excited about the future with JFK, I worked on RFK's campaign, Vietnam split our nation and even my marriage and killed people I knew, I was involved in the women's movement, I educated myself, I worked sometimes three jobs at a time to raise my kids and can now, in my retirement, barely survive.

I saw many presidents come and go and voted in all elections since JFK. My best financial years were during the Clinton administration. I have marched and marched from Portland to San Francisco and here in my very conservative valley, first for abortion rights, then for child care, then a union march for better pay at my job, and finally at a huge anti-war rally in San Francisco with my 90-year old aunt leading the way.

I am still with you, but I honestly don't know what next to do.

7. the only thing we can do
is tell ourselves that the future will be different. we know not HOW it will be different. but we can be assured that it will in fact be different. to see that our vision plays at least a part in it we must be actively involved. i do not want anyone to get discouraged. you have been at this far, far longer than i have been. i am only 18. many people are ignorant and uneducated, we fight for them too, and it is worth it. it is worth my time and effort and sanity. i fully believe that, and i hope you stay with us. many were discouraged after trying so hard to put the democrats in office and now look at the collapse. the 100 hours died on the floor. the war marches on. but doing nothing will just mean that our world goes to hell even quicker. we can stop it. i believe that, and i hope you do too.

If you have any specific recommendations with regard to how to 'fight' other than casting the correct votes, feel free to PM myself and others.

17. are you not fighting for your cause by posting here?
isn't that more than what most people do? you look for things outside of the MSM. that's more than most people do. i called pelosi and stark the other day. that's something. i have been to protests. i have volunteered for campaigns. now that is action. but you could do none of that, but just care about our political system, and that would be enough.

6. So what exactly are you asking here? " SO WHO THE HELL IS WITH ME?"
Do you have something in mind and if so what? (Be careful, cause you probably could/would be tombstoned for your reply) You can use PM and I believe that, that is ok!

18. I also remember the Democratic Convention in Chicago 1968
I will never forget watching the young protesters (my age) getting the shit beat out of them by police. I was jumping around screaming at the TV--could not believe it, and I can still see it in my mind.

That event was a turning point in my life and from then on I didn't sit on my hands anymore.

Are our young people still in that fighting mood? If not, they NEED to be! I think there is too much apathy "out there." Kids on TV tonight were being interviewed about how patriotic they felt....not much...would they rather live in another country...that would be cool.

If the draft were reinstated then things might change faster...Americans have Britney and Paris to distract them. And those that control the airwaves control the message

14. *sigh* i know
but they do get people's attention now don't they :P and thank you. it could certainly be construed as rude, but rudeness is most certainly not my aim. i don't think the sheer frustration can be show without the use of the caps. maybe i am preaching to the choir. i guess i just don't know anymore. maybe i think i am giving up. ah well.

16. i do not know what you are suggesting or maybe i do but don't see a base for it
but all that i mean is i want people to care about what happens in this country. i do not want people to become so disillusioned that they just give up. nothing more. and nothing less.

19. Ok, I have posted this in the past and will again.... I said in a previous post...
We need a leader with name recognition, someone that is willing to go the distance and won't give up when the going gets tough! At this time I don't know who that may be, but he/she better show there face and soon. A post was made a few years ago on DU about States leaving the Union, and reforming in order to offset the current Administration... Not sure if anyone here remembers that or not? What we need now is a very strong leader that will stay the course, (not political) but another person... Of course this is my opinion only!

if you ask me just the mere fact that we are here and synthesizing and pushing forward is doing something. i would love to contribute money, but i am unfortunately one hella broke college student. however, i did call both pelosi's and stark's office 2 days ago. i also called both clinton and schumer (my NY senators) about the appointment of the justice. let's see. i have marched against the war. i have protested against the war. and i have helped. but mainly, i care.
