1. "The Abortion Issue"??
Why did you choose that particular term?

I feel quite passionate about the CHOICE issue.

The issue is about CHOICE.

2. I appreciate the opportunity to get derailed into a terminology battle
But I'm afraid I'm going to forgo. I've considered it and I use the term Abortion or Abortion Issue to refer to the national discussion over whether or not a woman should have the right to have an abortion (for the record I support woman having the right to choose).

3. I think the left and the right are both passionate--it's the middle that
is ok with choice but with some conditions.

5. Trying to claim the middle ground on this one usually draws fire from both extremes

4. As with most social issues, extreme viewpoints get the most air play
I think it's meaningless to try to compare the degree of passion between someone who thinks abortion is killing a child, and that of someone who considers non-availability of abortion to be forcing a woman to be pregnant against her will.

6. Define "passionate"
Edited on Thu Oct-25-07 11:20 AM by TechBear_Seattle
I would have to say the Republicans, by far. I have seen many small and large protests against a woman's right to choose, and I have heard a great many Republican candidates speak passionately against abortion. I have seen relatively few demonstrations in favor of a woman's right to choose, and one rarely hears Democratic candidates say anything about abortion beyond a lukewarm "keep things as they are."

It very much seems to me that Democrats couldn't care less about abortion as an issue.

7. I think there's an element of truth in this
I think Republican candidates realize that passionate denunciations of Abortion move their audience and Democratic Candidates realize that passionate defenses of Reproductive Freedom don't really get them anything. I suppose it's because the current perception is that Abortion is protected, and therefore while an important issue, not something that there's much to do about.

8. I voted republicans by a wide margin
Some repukes I know support their party to the death, just because of this issue. They barely pay attention to any other issues. Dems, on the other hand, tend to consider a wide variety of issues instead of focusing on one.
