So as I follow the threads regarding the condi hearing...
I can't help but think that I have read this before.

abu gonzales, goodling, etc.

my question is: after all of the very obvious stonewalling, what will come of this?

will any of them be held accountable? so far, history provides me the very depressing answer.

I love the poignant questions posed by the Dems and am not surprised by the fluffer repukes softballs, but frankly, it's just more of the same dodge and weave, lie and blather, I have to get back to you and I don't recall bullshit.

what case are the dems building? what is all this for? if the people subpoenaed aren't answering the questions, how good is the oversite?

unless a criminal investigation is launched and these pigs feet are held to the fire, I fear nothing at all will come from these hearings.

more riveting tv for the masses to believe that something is being done to "save our nation".

more of the congress kabuki theater.

1. I had the same thought...
Thinking back about subpoenas unanswered, unresponsive witnesses, paperwork never provided, culminating with the stunning non-appearance of Harriet Meiers. Always putting off the reckoning, and---as far as I've heard anyway---never taking it up again.

Very disheartening.

24. I think that millions of us are wide awake. But, as yet, no one seems
to have a workable plan for kicking the Bush gang out. It certainly doesn't look like the Dems in Congress are going to get the job done.

I'm very impressed with the Dems here today and satisified with my prior knowledge that the repukes would waste their time and they are

17. its over now but condi was the choice of meat today
I think they might'a burned her a little though, kept 'er on the fire a little longer than planned too, prolly gonna be hard to chew or digest her after this one, yep I think they might have cooked the good out of her. Sorry you couldn't watch it, it was fun.

All I know for sure is we have some mighty fine Democratic Representatives representing us, asking the tough questions, mind you they weren't getting many answers as is expected from the crooks themselves. And you know once everyone figures that one little thing out and then proceed knowing that can we stop this criminal crew. they are masters of obfuscation

I called my congressman's office this week and among other things, I asked about the subpoenas that are being ignored. His aide said they will get back to me.

Riiiight.

19. I know and its hard to stay so upbeat about it all but for my sanity I have to
I must. I'm hearing a different tone in the voices of dissent nothing unlike what I heard back in the watergate days right before the hearing really took off. Hang in there we are going to get justice, we have to or our constitution doesn't exist and I am not going to allow myself to think thats possible. I know the dick and w think they have it all under control but we mustn't forget we have the Constitution on our side and they can't take that from us unless we give it to them. Oh I know if you ask them today they will tell you that yes they have already taken it but its there, collecting dust at the moment but its still there nonetheless just waiting to be dusted off and read and acted upon. Its coming sooner than later too, I promise or my words aren't worth the electricity it takes to make them appear. ;-)

Theres a happy day coming for us soon I trully believe

6. Waste of time
I hope they build no case, and concentrate on creating a better financial picture for most Americans.

The problem I have with this Congress is they concentrate too much on trying to convict people instead of balancing their budget and meeting the demands of this country.

We're in Iraq now - get over it. I never voted for Bush and never supported the war - but it happened. Move on.

7. They're sending the bulk of our taxes to a corrupt regime in Iraq...
Stopping that seems to me like Job #1 in "creating a better financial picture for most Americans".

15. Get your dumb ass in the war, freeper.
www.goarmy.com

When you are busting your ass in the infantry, like I did, then you might think differently about "getting over it."

Bravely fighting the culture war at your computer. How pathetic. Your cowardice and the cowardice of those like you is a disgrace to this Nation.

13. It's all a dog and pony show. They do the same crap over and over and over
and NOTHING ever happens to them. They hold a hearing, they get "I don't recall" answers, Congress subpoenas people, the subpoenas are ignored, Congress threatens them with contempt, that's ignored, contempt charges are never filed, they hold more investigations, get more "I don't recall answers....rinse and repeat.

Then, Congressional members send out emails to US, complain bitterly about the crimes being committed, ask US for more money for their fights against the administration and on it goes....more investigations, more subpoenas, more contempt threats.....DOG AND PONY SHOW. They want us to THINK they are doing something when really it's all an act to keep us all drooling like Pavlov's Dogs.:(

22. Sadly, I have to agree with your assessment...
...this will come to nothing, nothing at all.

See, to us, Condi is obviously lying and stonewalling. However, note that the Republicans on the committee wasted no opportunity to FRAME the hearings, by stating how "professionally" she conducts herself, while all the "other side" wants is to see "our" mission fail. The few times our Democrats made similar framing remarks, was only defensively, in response to what the Republicans said.

The Republicans know that in order to win in the court of public opinion, you have to posit a narrative. Then you can hang your hat on that narrative, and fit the facts to the narrative.

The Democrats on the other hand, make obscure allusions to the factual information they dig up, and then allow the other side to brush it off like a little dust that just landed on them.

What the Democrats need to do is to form a positive narrative, not just bring up one fact after another in an attempt to make the SOS look bad. Not that she does not deserve to look bad -- she does. But we did nothing to further that narrative today, simply nothing.

Truly sad.
