Will lower polling Dems eventually endorse Edwards to beat Clinton?
I'd love for Al Gore to be our next president!

I'd love for Dennis Kucinich to be our next president!

Neither is going to happen and at some point I have to reluctantly put aside my wishful thinking and be pragmatic.

I believe that John Edwards has the most realistic chance of challenging Hillary for the Democratic nomination. We are already seeing a definitive live being drawn between Hillary and the rest of the pack. On one side you have Clinton with her most recent Iran amendment vote, and on the other side...Edwards, Kucinich, Obama, Dodd, Richardson, and Biden. All have suggested her support of said measure makes it easier for Shrub to start a new war with Iran. Per CBSNews (10/25/07):

...Former senator John Edwards (N.C.) has been even more relentless. He attacked Clinton hours after the vote and has not let up on his criticism since. Sens. Joseph R. Biden Jr. (Del.) and Christopher J. Dodd (Conn.), who voted against the measure, and New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson have eagerly joined in the attacks.

Edwards, who, like Clinton, supported the 2002 Iraq war resolution, said she failed to learn a lesson from that episode. "I think it's an enormous mistake to give George Bush the first step in the authority to move militarily on Iran," Edwards said in a telephone interview from Iowa yesterday. "My view is that the resolution on the Iranian Revolutionary Guard did that."

Getting someone other than Hillary Clinton as our nominee is a critical concern for this voter. If it is not to be Dennis or Al, I sure as hell hope it's Edwards or Obama. From my vantage point, Edwards has the best chance to win across every region of our country.

QUESTION: Do you see folks in the lower tier of the M$M polls eventually joining as a group to endorse Edwards? If so, when would be the best time to do this?

1. my guess is "No."
maybe Dennis K would, but I think the Senate Dems--Biden and Dodd--would be closer to Hillary than to Edwards. Obama is somewhat of a question mark--he might go for Edwards, in part because I think he would have a better chance at being Edwards' running mate than Hillary's. Richardson was part of the Clinton Administration and I would bet that if he dropped out if he endorsed anybody it would be Hillary.

2. Do you mean their supporters or the actual candidates themselves.
I could see their supporters migrating towards Edwards; as for the candidates themselves, they may be too scared of Hillary to actually come out and endorse Edwards.

3. The candidates...
Excuse the oversimplification here, but basically they form a coalition of ANTI-war Dems who will NOT endorse HRC in favor of a less complicit nominee.

John Edwards is going to have to get some help to establish even a psychological perception among voters that he is a viable alternative who CAN WIN.

An Al Gore endorsement would be a huge boost!

4. No. When they quit, they'll want to endorse "a winner" so they'll endorse HRC.

After all, "everyone knows she's the inevitable winner".
