Those fires here in Southern California ........
Edited on Thu Oct-25-07 03:29 PM by ronnykmarshall
are just SUCH a bother. Why just the other day I was motoring to The Club when Driver phoned me from the front of Limo to tell me that The Club was CLOSED! CLOSED! Can you imagine? WELL, my day was RUINED! RUINED I tell you! THEN when we tried to get to the dock to check on Yacht .... we TURNED BACK! TURNED BACK I tell you! Something about evacuation.

When I got home to Mansion I ordered Butler to turn on the television and I was SHOCKED! SHOCKED I tell you! All over Southern California .... (you know 100% rich and WHITE Southern California) .... FIRES EVERYWHERE! EVERYWHERE I tell you! Mansion after mansion in blazes! Freeways jammed with RICH WHITE PEOPLE being driven by their drivers (mostly in Rolls Royce's and other EXPENSIVE cars) to some sort shelter. Why my heart just sank! I quickly called Maid, Back up Maid, Butler, Driver and ordered them to clear all the brush around mansion and ordered pool boy to hose down the roof (shirtless of course).

Just when they finished their chores and returned from getting cleaned up in the servants quarters (they were so filthy, FILTHY I tell you)and returning to their NORMAL job functions .... my telephone rang! Well Butler was out drying off Pool Boy (luck him) so I had to answer the phone MYSELF, it was THAD! Thad told me he had to evacuate and would I be a lamb and let him stay over? Well OF COURSE! It might be a bit cramped, but I could spare the south wing for him. I mean what are friends FOR? What ARE they for, I tell you.

Well, I tell you good people this week has been MOST stressful. Once things get back to normal, I think I take Pool Boy off on a little trip to Paris.

How was YOUR week?

:sarcasm:

of all the other threads claiming that SoCal is full of rich white people and that's why we are doing better than the Katrina victims. Pretty well done satire, too.

30. Our best wishes go out to your friend - that's heartbreaking and I can't
imagine the fear in confronting such an uncertain future.

I don't need to keep defending the OP or try to convince you his intent wasn't cruel. You'll continue to interpret it one way, and I'll continue to interpret it another.

And seriously, I'm sorry for your friend and thousands of others who have had their lives so tragically altered. We all are.

Peace.

I didn't mean to imply that the OP's intent was cruel, I only meant that perhaps satire might not be the most appropriate tool for discussing something so closely related to an ongoing tragedy. Perhaps the fact that I know people directly affected has heightened my sensitivity regarding the whole situation.

Peace,
Make7

13. It sucked here in San Diego too.
After Van-Halen made a last minute cancellation on their reunion concert to entertain all of us at the stadium, we got stuck with having to listen to the 2 remaining members of Whitesnake instead. It was sheer HELL I tell you. Then the Dom Perignon that was donated by my fellow wealthy entrepreneurs, showed up WARM. IT WAS NOT EVEN ON ICE!! I just can't believe that they expect us to put up with such barbaric conditions. Don't even get me going on how the caviar was Beluga instead of Golden Sterlet...awful, just awful.

Oh well, even though my 40000 square foot McMansion burned to the ground, for the 4th time in as many years, I'm gonna rebuild it again with the money in my trust fund. It just never runs out you know.

Naturally you have the R&W (rich and white) rider on your insurance policy that will pay off that sub-prime equity line and rebuild your house even bigger and more fire-prone than before.

No use that trust fund for nice big GOP campaign thank-you donation.

We went down to Qualcomm to pick up some of the food and water being offered for fire evacuees, with the intent of bringing it back to our brothers and sisters in the migrant camp hidden in the bottom of a canyon in the fire zone. But we were arrested and deported instead.

But at least WE we not waiting on the federal government to give us a handout like those icky low lifes in NOLA. We had our Mexicans up and bringing us stuff right away.

On the bright side though, the insurance companies have set up check distribution centers at most of the corner Hummer dealers so we can all pay off those pesky sub-prime mortgages. Ahhh, it's good to be one of the ordinary everyday rich white San Diegans.

57. I'm sincerely sorry if I offended you, MindPilot
but I had the impression that this thread is about satire. The Californian who started this thread knows the value of laughing when he's/she's hurting. I've been there myself, & my husband & I, thankfully, always maintained a sense of humor through it all. Believe me, it helped.

The survivors of Katrina, which included my family, were referred to as "refugees" on the news, which explains my joke about that. That's a well-known fact to those who paid attention, so I'm sure your "we are EVACUEES...this is SoCal, dear" remark wasn't intended to be uppity.

Again, I'm sorry that you were offended & that your friends get back safely.

76. I'm so relieved!
I thought I had lost a friend.

Did your friends make it back safely yesterday? I'm so sorry you're having to go through this; I know what it's like. After two years, a number of small businesses & major department stores around here haven't re-opened. Macy's announced that they're coming back next year at a mall just 15 minutes away from where I live & they are also opening an additional store that will be about 25 minutes away. That's excellent news. And, for some reason, the fast-food places & convenience stores in the suburbs as well as the city no longer stay open as late as they used to do. But the worst that we had to endure was the entire first year following the hurricane. Meat & other refrigerated foods were scarce (& limited in quantity to each family) because the distribution centers used for storage were out of commission & because trucks were unable to get in to deliver the goods.

Good luck with getting normalcy back. I hope that the assistance given to the victims in California will be much improved from that given to Louisianians. With today's political climate & a partisan, punitive in the White House, it's good that you have a Republican governor. The boy king will be sure to try to make him look good.

Best wishes. :)

You know - guys in Malibu - didn't lose too many homes. You know hoe expensive it is to live there??

Middle class areas sure did.

I live in the Valley - they evacuate here - their horses do anyway.

If you live in the valley - at evening the sun is blood red from the smoke. We will not get hit - we just see the people that had their lives destroyed.

But I don't think anyone should make fun of this. Not even sarcasm.

Too much, I have never seen anything like this - And I have lived here since 66 - this is different. I couldn't go in my front yard - the winds were so strong. And I have had the hinge of a car door snapped off in these winds in the past.

I usually appreciate satire - not this time.

Too many people hurt - too much smoke and wind - too much.

52. They should be looking - I do not fault the media
for all this coverage. They should be converging on this one.

I don't watch this on TV - I go outside and watch the smoke. The winds are coming back this way - not cool.

I have seen the hills burn all around the valley before - but I have never seen smoke in a 360 degree view ever.

Those winds - they usually last a few days and then quiet for a few days - then they pick up again.

I know about where you are and you know about where I live out here.

No joke here at all.

49. Darling! As my maid read this to me I almost fell off the massage table!
Why, I nearly fired her for saying such things! Thank goodness Chips, my butler, had smelling salts and fans on stand by. You should warn people before you create such horrible and devasting posts!

Sweetie, you simply must use my pied-a-terre in Paris for your getaway. Darling, what you've been through is just monstrous - I shudder just thinking of it! We must never speak of this again!!

64. Other than the smoke, you holding up okay there?
We have had a few touch and go moments down here (Irvine - Northwood village). But we are in our home, which is quite a thing.

65. Things are ok up here.
The smoke is better and we were never in any danger.

Many of my co-workers in SD were either on stand by or had to evacuate.
