What the Management at DaimlerChrysler isnt telling the public
Edited on Wed Feb-14-07 07:10 PM by INdemo
All options are open..Will the Daimler company dump Chrysler all together. With the announcement of cutting thousands of jobs, closing plants, etc but yet their stock went up.. unusual?, I dont know but what I'm reading between the lines is this.."Ok UAW either you take some strong concession's,pay a portion of your health care or we just might dump Chrysler altogether" Will they? dont think so but will the UAW call their bluff? This is real serious concern. There was a US businessman (dont remember his name) that tried to buy more shares to gain controlling interest when Daimler took control but some how this businessman was shut out with the help of the US government..Anyway I think that Daimler is laying the ground work for union concessions and Act II will follow in the coming weeks but still its a scary situation.
Another foreign company that has us by the balls.

1. Guy's name was Kerkorian
and he wasn't the end to end all either. Had some other ties to GM as well in the past.

As far as them spinning off Chrysler...all I can say is that I work there (hopefully still will) and our direct management said the spinoff rumors at the hdqtrs probably 'has some legs' so that's what I hear from the inside. The buyer - none other than Cheri (sp?) Motors from where else but China.

Just keeps getting better and better don't it?

And since I have worked in the auto industry for the past 30+ years, I will tell you that EVERY contract year, the big 3 cry like babies wanting SOMETHING from the workers. That is nothing new. It's business as usual for them at contract time and they do it to all of the big 3 until the UAW choses a 'target' for the negotiations. Once the 'target' company is chosen and negotiations are complete and a 'pattern' is set, the other 2 use that as a basis for their contracts with the UAW.

2. There are plans to build a new plant here in Kokomo,IN
(a transmission plant) and I just wonder if those plans will be scrapped.
No doubt they will close the plants indicated but I believe most of the talk is directed toward the UAW.
But yes I agree with you..and the problem I have is that of all the legislation passed in the last decade or so, NAFTA was the fatal blow to American industry..no,no I'm wrong about that..the fatal blow was when * was appointed President in 2000......

3. NAFTA just crippled it
and made it easier to kill. NAFTA, brought to your neighborhood by Republicans AND Democrats.

4. You are correct about that.....NAFTA was joint effort of both parties
but of course it benefited the Repubs the most... Corporate America found a way to earn more millions at the expense of American jobs.
Millions of corporate lobbyists money went in both political party pockets...No doubt

5. There were references to a Chrysler US tranny plant...
...being boxed up and shipped to China. Seems like Daimler's opening a new one here under those circumstances is unlikely.
