6. I saw that piece. Don't most of these guys qualify as mercs?
They're working with the US Military, but they're not US military nor are they IA either. They're mostly civilians working for a big paycheck by fighting along side the US - translators and such. Does this qualify them as mercs?

7. The Pope is trying to get countries to let in Christian refugees.
Right now they are mostly in Syria, which has taken them in wholeheartedly, by the way, even though Syria's Christian population is itself a minority...

Some axis of evil those Syrians...at least they take in their cousins to the east.

8. Just the Christian ones?
There goes the idea of helping ALL God's Children.

9. The story I read said it was a general appeal to Xian charity, but focused on
the destruction of the Chaldean and Assyrian communities, i.e., that Sunnis stranded in Baghdad could travel to their home villages and v.v. for non-Shia is Basra... it was the Xian population which were being rendered homesless as they are mostly urban and not agricultural, not that there aren't some Xian traditional villages...
I think after Ratso put his foot in his mouth, by citing a historical account in reference to "traditional" Xian/Muslim animosity, that he has treaded on a fine line in that regard. Sometimes one is better saying nothing in public and simply offering platitudes than trying to make an intellectual appeal, as it has no soundbite value.
Evidently the Kurds are the only ones too busy being Kurdish to dissolve into sectarian intercine strife, with the Xians caught in the fire of the civil war.
I know there are a lot of Assyrian and Chaldean websites in French and English calling for the EU, Australia, NZ, Canada, Argentina, Brazil, and the US to take in refugees, i.e., places where they can preserve their Aramaic liturgy and traditions.
