4 Charred Bodies in Calif. Migrant Camp
4 Charred Bodies in Calif. Migrant Camp
From Associated Press
October 25, 2007 6:46 PM EDT

SAN DIEGO - Four charred bodies were found Thursday in an apparent migrant camp burned by one of the wildfires raging across Southern California, authorities said Thursday.

The bodies were found in a wooded area near Barrett Junction, just east of San Diego and along the Mexican border, said Paul Parker, a spokesman for the San Diego County medical examiner's office.

Authorities said they discovered the bodies Thursday afternoon but did not know how long ago the victims died.

"They could have been out there a while," Parker said.

2. WHAT??
Are you sure they were not rich, white republicans?????

:sarcasm:

This is so sad.

There was a story of a couple that were found dead in their home as well. I think the death toll is now at 7.

4. I saw a few threads stating that people left their pets behind....
I had to use the "hide" button for those. I can't bear it. :-(

7. That's my biggest fear
Back in the single cat days we had to evacuate the building (false alarm). But we managed to get Mickey into the cat carrer and get out.

Now with 5, I don't know how we could get all of them out.

To hell with the house, it's all about getting out with the cats. I pray I never have to face that.

12. I fled a building fire with my roommate's two cats
one under each arm. They seemed to know it was a bad situation and stayed calm, those were the days when carriers were rare.

If a fire ever starts sweeping through this city, there is no way I'm going to leave my neurotic old kitty. We're a package deal.

10. That's so sad!
They weren't allowed to take them last time, so there's no way they could have known that the support agencies have wised up a tad in four years.

My brother and sister (nine people total between their two families) have evacuated the Lake Arrowhead area...for the second time in four years. They took their animals BOTH times, and told all the authorities to go Cheney themselves. They expected the need to do the same this time, but were pleasantly surprised to find their precious pooches were not only welcome, but that space, care and food arrangements had already been made for everyone's animals.

3. I'll bet these kinds of stories are getting a lot of play in freeperville, the fucking ghouls.
Lots of comments like yours but utterly devoid of sarcasm.

5. I'm so sick of the news spewing erroneous statistics!
Illegal immigrants do not respond to census polls! There are thousands in San Diego County who are NOT accounted for in statistics. That's assuming the dumbass news agency knows the difference between San Diego the city, and San Diego the county!! :eyes:

This is so sad.

So, who do we hate now? Brown people? Or all those wealthy people being taken care of so nicely? I sincerely hope I do not need the drippy red emoticon here. Seriously.

I'm pretty disgusted right now.

Some of the people affected, such as those in the Lake Arrowhead area, have been through this before... I'm sure many of them have no trust for government agencies at all, nor should they. I wonder how many of them stayed behind, fighting to save their homes, and won't be found for days, maybe weeks.

I hope that some knows who they were so that their families can be informed.

11. Tragedy
Evacuation services should be open to all people, without regard to anything but a need for help.

13. They are
What no one here seems to grasp is they are only getting part of the news. For instance it was widely reported here in San Diego on TV that there was an elderly man by the ones arrested at the stadium who is also an illegal resident, guess what - they did not arrest him or deport him. He, last I heard was still at the Q. The media likes to start things and leaves things out to make the immigrants sound responsible.
