11. Ours on cable goes off to test but when we
had a tornado and flooding it told the areas affected where to go to seek shelter. First time I ever saw it do that.

13. KOGO is 600 AM from San Diego?
It may just be that you are in an area where the EBS needs to be used, as in the wildfires.

It's really weird when you finally hear the EBS for real and they say "THIS IS NOT A TEST". First time I heard it was when a tornado was coming through Mercer, WI. Scared the living crap out of me and my baby and I ended up under a mattress in a closet. The tornado didn't hit the house, but it did touch down about 500 yards from my house.

Heard it again during the hurricanes in 2004 and 2005 on the East Coast of Florida.

I'm sure it's fine. It may just be a little screwed up or whatever. It's supposed to tell you exactly what the emergency is and what you should do to protect yourself.

15. I imagine they have not
I feel for you guys. My mother's whole family lives in the area near San Bernardino. My parents and my grandmother live out in Joshua Tree, where everything is fine right now, but my mother's brother and sister live closer to LA.

In 2004, when Florida got pounded, my nerves were constantly on edge. After Frances, we put all the debris on the curb, like we were told, but just 3 weeks later, Jeanne came through and we had to put all the debris in the shed, as it hadn't been picked up yet. When things like this happen, everyone is very much on edge, and confused and scared.

Hope they get everything under control soon so everyone can start picking up the pieces. One weird side effect of going through a disaster in your area is that everyone in the neighborhood is going through the same thing. Anyone who needs help gets it from their neighbors.

16. I Was Listening To KPBS
They had their transmitter on Mt. Miguel burn, but they've been carried on 94.9 FM as well as the internet.

www.kpbs.org

They've been doing some excellent coverage.

Regarding the EAS (the new "official name"...not EBS), if there was an alert without a report/warning, KOGO could be in a mess of trouble. If they're the "key" station and let out a false alarm, they could/should be fined thousands for the infraction.

Sadly, EAS is a total joke. Most stations are on auto-pilot, so these things either will malfunction or not operate when neeeded. Earlier this year, there was a tornado that went ripping across "tornado alley"...an area southwest of Chicago. EAS warnings were sent out at midnight, but only one station in the 100 mile area of the warning actually broadcast it...the others ignored it.

Also, if you have a NOAA weather radio, that would be a good thing to listen to...that's who the EAS/KOGO system is connected to.

Cheers...
