Idiot Glen Beck falsely claimed "the globe was the hottest" in 1934 -- it was actually 2005
http://mediamatters.org/items/200710250006?f=h_latest

Summary: Glenn Beck declared that "the globe was the hottest" in 1934; in fact, according to NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies, the hottest year on Earth was actually 2005, and 1934 -- now designated the hottest year on record in the U.S. after a revision in climate data -- does not even rank among the globe's five warmest years. Beck also suggested that the statistic "was, I believe, intentionally distorted by the guy the left holds up as the scientist on global warming," an apparent reference to GISS director James Hansen. In August, the GISS revised historical climate data because "the monthly more-or-less-automatic updates of our global temperature analysis had a flaw in the U.S. data."

2. Gov. Crist
in an Orlando paper is very popular my dint of facing reality- maybe without giving up his proper GOP lack of principles- but when he spoke of the need to confront(as other states are doing) global warming he chilled the party faithful he was speaking to. Of course, knowing your prime GOP real estate, whatever remains after the mega hurricanes- will sink into the new state archipelago, might rationally make one consider siding with reality and one's threatened constituents, but the constituents would rather sink than swim in these rising waters.

National politics thus trumps local survival and the true bedrock of flat earther's disbelief comes home to roost until the Dictator's voice says it is OK to tread water.

4. This was discussed in depth in another forum
www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=115&topic_id=109091

It came about because of the announced corrections to post-2000 temperetures by NASA. Some of the claims about temperature trends had to be modified, but 1934 was not the warmest year.

6. He didn't get anything right
It wasn't THE GLOBE, it was the USA, and as noted by others, even with that small subset 1934 isn't hte hottest. Take a look at the GLOBAL trend:

For comparison, this is the USA trend:

What does it mean? The globe is getting hotter faster on average than out little corner of it.
