“Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it”

After many years of unproductive war in Vietnam Richard Nixon, was taken by
the idea if he could just interrupt the supplies and support that the communists
in the south were getting through Cambodia he could get a breakthrough and
change the course of the war. Now bush/Cheney and the neo cons are selling
the idea that if they can just stop the Iranian support of the Shi our fortunes in Iraq
will change too. In both cases lack of understanding that "the bad guys" are staying
alive and a problem because of support by the native population is the key piece of
knowledge and bush just like Nixon seems to lack that bit of knowledge.

Our incursion into Cambodia helped allow the murderous Khmer Rouge and
Pol Pot into power which in turn made Cambodia's population go from 6 million
to 4.5 million. God, knows what devils we will unleash if we attack Iran. But
those devils are there and the human, environmental, and economic costs will
be huge.

To me the root problem in Vietnam and Iraq is the same .... Our troops
are someplace they do not belong and the people of those countries
know that simple fact.

they need to get out of there, before they are thrusted into a another country. These guys/girls mental state will never be the same.
