POSTPONED-Saturday, October 27, 2007-
MARCH AND RALLY TO END THE WAR IN IRAQ;
FUND HEALTHCARE NOT WARFARE!

Posted October 25: Dear Members of the San Diego Peace and Justice Community,

After much discussion and with very heavy hearts, the planning group for this Saturday's March and Rally has decided that the event must be postponed due to the firestorm catastrophe unfolding in our county. We discussed links we see with shortages of local resources, the outcomes they've had on our fire crisis and the enormity of the devastation of Iraq. We debated whether the larger community would be open to this message. We decided, finally, that now was not the time for such a public discussion but rather a time for coming together in support of those most impacted by the fire's destruction.

With this in mind, we would like to urge each and every person who planned to come to the demonstration this Saturday to volunteer and/or contribute to relief efforts - especially for those who find themselves outside of the traditional safety net. Suggestions include the collection point at Chicano Park and the Displaced Farm Worker Drive. Please find details at www.sdcpj.org

We will seek to re-schedule the demonstration for the near future and appreciate your understanding.

We will also be posting links at www.sdcpj.org to the demonstration in Los Angeles for those who would like to travel there in solidarity of the National call date this Saturday.

Again, thank you for your understanding.

The Planning Group for Oct. 27th and the San Diego Coalition for Peace and Justice
***************************************************************

Postponed: Gather 12 Noon, Horton Plaza, Downtown San Diego, 4th and Broadway; March to Pantoja Park Park from 1-3 p.m.

The U.S. war in Iraq is responsible for killing hundreds of thousands of innocent Iraqis and over 3700 American military personnel with tens of thousands more injured. It's time for peace and social justice activists and those fighting for universal healthcare to unite! Change the twisted priorities in this country. Please join us in an historic march in Sn Diego to demand that our government bring our troops home now, fund universal quality health care not war, and stop neglecting our vets.

65. Hi Robinlynne! Saw your post in another thread (and your comment
that there was no media there). Sadly, I couldn't go to this one (and I haven't missed any that I know of in 3 years) but I'd love to hear about it from someone who went. Were the usual celebs there and the myriad special interest groups and their interminable speeches? Were the helicopters hovering overhead the whole time? And how about the onlookers? Were they, for the most part, perplexed by our disenchantment with this great country or are they finally beginning to understand our discontent? How many participated would you guess? Was it roughly the same size as previous marches or more? Sorry if I'm imposing, but I really wanted to go.

66. Hi! no helicopters, but lots of homeland security vans. no news people at all.
lots of speakers; Martin Sheen, the cast of Hair sang several songs from Hair, Mark Ruffalo, Marcy Winograd, and many more whose names I don't know. It went from 12 till about 4:30. They did the die-in where everyone laid down in silence for a few minutes. I snapped some pictures. Will get them downloaded and post here for you.

64. The peace movement has been . . .
harassed by the police in my city, but we do have people here protesting often.

I carry an impeach sign with Chenny's face on it and an anti-war sign in the back of my car just in case I need to pull it out at anytime. I have code pink, peace signs and anti-war stickers all over my Subaru. Like I said, if I could, I'd be there. I some have photos of the movement in Albuquerque here ----> http://cybergata.com/peace.htm You'll notice I wasn't active in 2005, but believe me, my work life was so difficult that I didn't have the energy to participate.

57. Woot!! And Denver. CO checks in!
:bounce:

I hope you can take and post some pictures after your rally tomorrow!

I'll be watching the World Series, later on tomorrow, after the rally.

Lots of things to do tomorrow and I love it! :D

Have a great day! Is it snowing there?

62. It's a little chilly at 39 degrees, but it doesn't look like it's going to snow.
See ya there.
