6. or living in an orange grove..picking by day..camping by night..

My sons were sneaking bread and I was always out of peanut butter when we lived in Corona.. I caught the middle one (8 or 9 at the time) frantically making sandwiches..about an hour after lunch.

After I quizzed him. I found out that he and his brothers had been sneaking food (no wonder I was always out of lunch meat & crackers( to "the people who live in the orange trees.. (There was a huge grove right behind our house..

We always told the boys to stay out of there because of the pesticides ..among other dangers..but you know how boys are..

I went with them that day and sure enough there were two families living in the grove. they did not speak english and my spanish sucks

2 men 2 women a baby (that was not a neighborhood cat I hear in the nighttime) and a few toddlers..

We didn't know who owned the grove, so I did call social services that afternoon. No one every contacted me, so I don't know what happened to them, but my boys were feeding them for a few weeks at least

The sadly neglected population. The people who FEMA will probably never see. The people who are afraid to go anywhere or ask for anything.

I grew up with an in-ground pool in the backyard and we were hardly "rich."
