AP: Death certificates on abortions proposed (by Tenn. lawmaker)
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070214/ap_on_re_us/abortion_death_certificates_1

By ERIK SCHELZIG, Associated Press Writer Wed Feb 14, 1:41 PM ET

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Legislation introduced in Tennessee would require death certificates for aborted fetuses, which likely would create public records identifying women who have abortions.

Rep. Stacey Campfield, a Republican, said his bill would provide a way to track how many abortions are performed. He predicted it would pass in the Republican-controlled Senate but would have a hard time making it through the Democratic House.

"All these people who say they are pro-life — at least we would see how many lives are being ended out there by abortions," said Campfield.

Why are all of these anti-choice people so incredibly creepy, if not insane?

1. I could see a benefit in this if it includes the name of the
father even if they have to DNA test every male within the TN borders. The repuke who sponsored this wouldn't want his indiscretions on display or those of his family members.

2. That'll never pass
I suspect there are a lot of republican Christians who would not want records of their or their daughter's abortions.

I would love to see the long list of so-called pro-lifers on such a public record!

9. Ok, let them have their death certs on fetuses/abortions/
miscarriages. But they also have to start issuing conception certificates and STOP issuing those silly, arbitrary, meaningless birth certificates.

'Cause it's all about conception, you know!

And every conception that does not result in a live birth MUST be investigated as a suspicious death.

Every woman of childbearing age must submit monthly, or better yet weekly, to obstetrical exams and pregnancy testing. We MUST have accurate and immediate detection of ALL CONCEPTIONS, right?

10. Next they'll be wanting conception certificates.
All legislation like this does is certify that women do not have full rights of their own as fully developed human beings. If you're of child bearing age, you're reduced to the status of a vessel. Really, I don't understand why more pro-lifers don't see this legislation for what it is. Wake up. They aren't going to save all the little babies with legislation like this. There is no difference between an embryo aborted naturally, and one electively aborted, so why does only one get a death certificate?

11. There's no logic.
The whole thing is control, and has nothing to do with those poor, dead, babies.

14. Of for chrissakes, we already have standardized abortion reporting.
What is the fucking point of this? "Rep. Stacey Campfield, a Republican, said his bill would provide a way to track how many abortions are performed." We already DO track them, you dipshit! :banghead:

There is a very specific intention of a death certificate - i.e., there is no death certificate if there is no live birth. For example, if a 24 weeker dies in utero, there's a fetal death certificate issued, not a death certificate. There are very specific definitions for these things because they form the basis of vital records which are used to generate health statistics.

Maybe The Honorable Representative Campfield should have talked to someone in his Vital Statistics Bureau before proposing such stupid shit.
