So, I need to lighten up. What AREN'T we afraid of??
Edited on Sat Oct-27-07 01:09 PM by renie408
I check on here every day and I see thread after thread reviewing fears and concerns. War, inflation, fascism, depression, recession, marshall law, the police, Barbara Bush, corporations, pitbulls, big pharma, doctors, dentists, Hillary Clinton, natural disasters, the dollar crashing...the list goes on. I am not saying that these aren't legitimate fears or shouldn't be discussed, but sometimes I get a little wigged out when I am here. There has to be SOMETHING Democrats aren't afraid of. Or maybe it's just that if I don't find some things that aren't scary, I am going to freak out. And honestly, freaking out probably isn't going to help, SOOO...

I am not afraid of...shit, I can't even think of anything.

5. Dude, that's not helping.
Seriously, I got on here this morning looking for a distraction because I had just finished balancing our check book and MAN, after about thirty minutes I was definitely NOT feeling any better.

Sometimes I think we need to take a break and try to see if there is anything NOT bad out there. Sadly, I am drawing a blank right now.

7. That's not a good one for me. I think clowns are creepy.
Oddly, both my kids would scream like banshees if a clown ever came near them. Makes me wonder if it's genetic.

13. I am trying. But when I crawl out of the Bush trap of fear, I fall into the Dem one.
And while it is catchy to say that the only thing to fear is fear itself, I get a daily dose of scary shit. Two weeks ago I was scared of food prices going so high we were going to have to resort to eating the cats (the cats are going to be the first to go. Self satisfied bastards.). This week there is the separation of our country into nine separate nations, an economic calamity and that ongoing fascist police state thing.

12. DU never leaves me feeling upbeat & positive.
Never. Usually I have to follow up with a walk outside to shake the doom-&-gloom mindset DU puts me in. Why do I continue to come here? I think DU has a better sense of what is really happening in our country, events & trends that are going unreported & that most Americans are not concerned with or don't have time to follow. I'm not sure I believe things will get totally as bad as some do, but on the other hand, I don't discount that possibility, either. I don't want to be in a down head rift all the time, but I don't want to be blindsided by what I think is coming down the pike either.

It's hard to find balance in chaos. Good luck!

20. It's the man bites dog thing...
and half the posters here go by the mantra-- if you can't say anything bad, don't say anything.

Personally, I can't think of any ti9me in human history that's been a "good" time. War, pestilence, disease, economic failure, stupidity... It's all happened in the past and seems to be the normal way of things.

So, as bad as things get, it bothers me, but doesn't scare me. Fascism? Nazis? I grew up with people who had numbers tatooed on their forearms. They considered themselves survivors, not victims, and made very good lives for themselves here. They never forgot, but they never let it slow them down. The economy? my mother was born at the outset of the Depression, and my grandfather ssaw his busines die from it. War? My father was in the Third Army following Patton into hell. All of them said-- "This too shall pass."

The only thing that really gets to me sometimes is what we're managing to do to the the planet. Every society in the past has managed to wreck parts of it, but only now do we have the means to destroy the whole thing. There is, however, very little I can do about it, so I mourn the planet, but don't fear what I cannot control.

23. You have nothing to fear but fear itself, seems Americans have been feed so much
fear that they are unable to stop and reliaze a fearful nation is a nation easly controled. We have everything to be concerned about, shrub man inc. has made that clear, but we need to stop breeding these fears of the unknown. Fear another Clinton as president, Fear Obama, screw that, whoever wins the bid to run I am supporting them period. We all know that our elected politicans are pandoring to everyone out there and making a bunch of promises they have no way to keep. If you really think theres a perfect canidate, well grow up. Hell the worst democratic runner is 1,000x better then the best repuke canidate, it has always been that way for my 50 years of life. Sure I'd like to see the best of the best out there to be able to run and get in, but like South Park pointed out, you only get a choice between a shit sandwich and a giant douche to vote for, thats the reality of politics. We can never go back to the days of the founding fathers nor can we expect to get the kind of leadership they provided, for one thing that is mostly myth's that we heard over and over. The reality about the founding fathers is, they were humans with human failings to, they were not perfect nor did they run perfect governments. Stop with the projecting of out comes, yeah we got a shit sandwich when shrub stole the election but how many times has america had to survive shit sandwiches? Fear? Hell no, I'll die on my feet before I kneel down and kiss the ass of any politican who uses fear to get his/her way.

31. Dead people
It's the living that scare the fertilizer out of me. When I worked in a hospital, everyone would scatter when it was time to take a patient to the morgue. I did more than my share of corpse-wrangling single handed, unless I could convince a med student to help.

I was way more afraid of being mugged on my way to the morgue (really creepy basement) than I was of my former patients. All the other nurses seemed to think that was weird.

39. My upcoming deployment
Leaving in February for 6 months, but I'm not afraid of that. As we get closer to the election if shrub has any intelligence at all, he will scale back operations in Iraq/nearby areas to increase the chances of a rethuglican getting elected.

However I'm not entirely convinced if his ego can withstand the philosophy "take 1 step back to eventually take 2 steps forward".

Something I will definitely miss is this site. Accessing DU from a Gov't. computer is asking for all kinds of trouble.

I hope my profile/userid/whatever doesn't get deleted. Shortly before I deploy I will contact the admin staff to get their 2 cents on the topic.

My Birthday is early February so I'll be here for that, and my son will be 9 in mid-September, so I think there's a very good chance I'll be back in time for that.
