The ONLY WAY AL GORE becomes the Democratic Nominee in 2008 is....
... none of the present candidates gets a majority vote and the nomination results from a 'brokered convention.'

Al Gore could be nominated from the floor and if he got a majority vote he would become the Party Nominee.

Most states require delegates to vote in accordance with their state's primary/caucus for the candidate they were elected to vote for in the first round of voting at the Democratic Convention, but if there is no majority cast for one candidate they are usually 'released' to vote for another candidate. It has to be this way in order for a Democratic Nominee to be elected if none of the candidates running will drop out, and none of them can get a majority.

Of course, Al Gore could decline.

1. Thanks for the info. You don't say this, but I presume this means
you take Gore at his word that he's not planning to run?

I think if he were going to, he would have announced by now.

2. There are logistics to every campaign for public office that cannot be ignored...
.... this is the only way Gore can end up being the Democratic Party Nominee now, given the circumstances he now would face to try and enter the race in a conventional manner.

I prefer Edwards, but like Gore a lot also. I wish Gore had gotten in a lot sooner and we might be watching a four way race to the finish. As it is I think Edwards and Obama are hurting each other, and Hillary is benefitting.

Even so, the race is a long way from being over. Edwards has been holding back running tv ads, and the last 60 days before the primaries is going to see momentum on behalf of Edwards --hopefully to crest at the Iowa caucus.

But to address your comment --I think Gore unofficially opted out a long time ago. He is doing exactly what he wants to do right now, and let's face it politics is a rough and tumble lifestyle that I don't think Gore wants to revisit.
