Saturdays Peace March in Seattle
A few photos and "my" take on the day....
Great weather, great activists and what was really encouraging was the amount of young people that showed up...
Peace

8. Thanks Undeterred
This march was different, age, diversity etc. several of us "older" marchers commented on this during the day. I talked with one gentleman who was probably in his mid to late 70's, tears in his eyes....Saturdays march affected many.

10. I know there's always been the question
where are all the college age people, but they are out now too. I went to Washington in Sept 2005 and it was a slightly older group. Now I think we can say that the people who are against the war includes EVERYBODY. And its good to see Muslims in there too.

12. Everybody
Yes, it felt like more people were there than what ever the official numbers end up being. I think it had that vibe due to the event staying on message like eridani mentioned below.
Focus...

5. Just a side note for anybody who thinks that there are any "far leftists" on DU
Here on the Left Coast, Kucinich is a reactionary who is plotting to subvert revolutionary activity by diverting it into the Democratic Party. As you can see from the quote below (scanned from a handout that was passed out at the rally), even fecking ANSWER isn't "far left" enough for some people, just because this time they paid attention to march attendees who prefer a focused antiwar event to a "Help Stamp Out Everything That Needs Stamping Out" event.

In a prime example of how not to build an inclusive, effective movement, this radical perspective was squelched. In the organizing for today's march and rally in Seattle, even though socialists played a main role in the coalition. the Church Council of Greater Seattle and the Fellowship of Reconciliation made their participation contingent on excluding speakers who might advocate the right of Iraqis or Palestinians to resist their occupations. The ANSWER-led majority voted to exclude anti-capitalist, multi-issue coalition members as speakers, even from the socalled "open mic." This is a blatant restriction of free speech that holds back the movement.

9. I rode the bus up from Portland
And I have to say, I was really, really GLAD, with a capital G, that the pre-march, march and post-march efforts were mostly focused. It has been quite annoying to go to an anti-war rally and get harangued by speakers about we have to free Leonard or free Mumia or some other cause, and if we don't, we're just nothing but a bunch of shithead fascists or enablers. Eyes on the prize, people. I didn't ride for three hours on a bus to do anything but protest the war, thanks. If you have your own worthy cause, go ahead and organize your own demonstration; maybe I'll join it, too. But don't piggy-back on someone else's effort just because you have a captive, presumably like-minded audience.

That being said, the rally was quite good, it was a fine day for a march, and a fine time was had by the folks on our bus.
