Congratulations Red Sox fans - but, here's a warning:
As soon as they mentioned "Larry Lucchino" on the broadcast tonight, I knew exactly what the Red Sox are doing. They are going to try again to get Boston to build a new stadium for the Red Sox. Even though Boston has made improvements to Fenway Park, I know they are still going to try again. Larry Lucchino is the "hired thug" for MLB who goes from team to team getting new ballparks built for them. He had a big hand in the decision to build Camden Yards in Baltimore. Then he moved to the San Diego Padres and convinced a city already in debt to pony up for a new ballpark to the tune of $400 million (which has since grown larger). Now he's the hired gun on the Red Sox, "working" with the city to come up with a plan, and selling that plan to the voters. Expect him to say, "This is about the preservation of baseball in Boston" over and over again - a veiled threat that the Red Sox will leave Boston if they don't get a new stadium. This is how they operate - get a winning team to make it to the World Series (and preferably win, but at least make it) and then in the euphoria afterwards, drop the bomb. It's obvious now that's what Larry's there for.

1. I'm all for teams getting new stadiums if they want them
And the team is welcome to buy whatever new stadium it wants to for however much the team wants to pay for it.

2. No way in hell will the Red Sox leave Fenway.
I'm no Boston fan by any stretch of the imagination but Fenway is one of the few ballparks that have achieved legendary status. Hell would freeze over before the Red Sox leave Fenway.

4. I also thought the Yankees would never leave the House that Ruth Built, and that
Wrigley field would never get lights and have a night game.
