Did anybody watch Sarkozy on 60 Minutes ?
In two interviews, a brief one aboard an airplane and a more formal one several weeks ago, he expressed his admiration for both the U.S. work ethic and its pop music.

Asked about his father's fears years ago that anyone with a Hungarian last name like Sarkozy could not succeed in France, he said one thing he admires about the U.S. democracy is its openness and opportunities to all kinds of people.

"You can be called Schwarzenegger and be governor of California," he said.

It's easy to see why George W Bush likes this guy. He is apparently France's version of a Corporate shill. Just like Bush.

6. Stahl persisted in badgering him about his relationship with his wife.
After telling her that he was not going to talk about it, she continued. So he got up and left. I didn't blame him for that. Otherwise, yeah, he's a corporatist and a shill.

5. There were so many things wrong with Leslie Stahl's approach:
Edited on Mon Oct-29-07 07:03 AM by rusty charly
Saying that the French hated America but Sarkozy loved America. Leslie: wrong. The French, like most of America, only hate Bush and Bush's people and policies. She went on and on about how the French hates America but Sarkozy loves American movies. Thanks, Leslie. American movies and popular culture NEVER sell in France. You nitwit.

The only thing I liked about Sarkozy was how he challenged Stahl in a way I wish US politicians would. Staahl: "You're on TV so much." Sarkozy: "And yet you invited me on 60 minutes."

The interview also showed what a hack Stahl is. When she sees that Sarkozy is getting riled, does she changed her tack and get the answer she wants, or does she just keep sledge-hammering away: "But everyone in America is asking (about your marriage)!" Huh? We are, Leslie?

He didn't want to answer her, she just kept badgering him until he walked out.

Then there's the idea that we know how Sarkozy is going to govern. Stahl said everything except she looked into his soul. It reminded me so much of the original Putin stories. Wait until he doesn't go along with an American vote or idea. That will be the end of the lovefest.

11. Terrible interview.
I didn't feel like I got much, if any, idea of what he is going to support in foreign policy terms.
Who cares about his relationship with his wife and whether he likes American culture?
Yeesh.
Yes, he came off snippy, but I wish more Americans would put the kabosh on this type of interview - it IS stupid.
