Marine, Friend Charged in Placer County Animal Slaughter Shooting Spree

For almost a week, a string of animal killings baffled deputies and put neighbors on edge in the Placer County foothills northwest of Newcastle. Now, two 18-year-old men are arrested in the killing spree.

Sheriff's deputies believe Collin James Lovejoy and Timothy Randall Schulz were involved in the string of shootings which killed livestock and at least one family pet along Gold Hill Road and Wise Road.

Lovejoy is on active duty in the U.S. Marine Corps, according to deputies.

The victims include a young bull, two goats, a chicken and a pet dog. Deputies say in one instance, a house was also hit by two shots aimed at outside lights.
