Bill O'Reilly thinks he knows Yiddish!
What a jerk! Doesn't he have a research staff? In his ridiculous criticism of Laura Bush for wearing a headscarf while visiting Saudi Arabia.... he tried so hard to sound smart. It wasn't enough that he criticized her for showing respect for another nation's culture, but he had to be a total idiot, once again.... Trying to sound intelligent never works for him, and it surely didn't work this time, either.

He said that Laura wore a 'schmata,' which he claimed is Yiddish for head scarf. IDIOT. The word 'schmata' is Yiddish for RAG. Yeah, what you'd use to dust the furniture or wipe up spills. But, there's no one on his show to correct him. They're all such fools.

2. Well, it's not a tiechel, but honestly, a schmata on your head is kinda
funny and not exactly unheard of. We were talking do rags in the lounge the other day ...

4. The Weekly Standard ...
... described Laura's headwear as a "schmata".

I'm not saying they pass these talking points around, mind you, but ...

5. As an Irish girl from Jersey, my Jewish girlfriend taught me yiddish,
along with her grandmother....They loved teaching me new words and to tell the truth, yiddish says it all. When you hear someone is a schmuck you just know what it means. My fav is meshuggada (I know it's spelled wrong) but I love that word anyway. Yiddish should be a required language in school, it absolutely has a word for every situation....lol

9. They say you can tell what's important to a culture by the number of words it has for a thing.
Like the eskimos having maybe 27 words to cover every possible kind of snow and the rest of us just say "snow."

We Jews have a large number of words to describe a worthless man: putz, schmuck, shnurrer, schmendrick, schlemiel, schlimazl....

I used to tap dance on the Steel Pier in AC and got to know a lot of those great performers. Many were first generation Jews, their families mostly worked in the garment district..oy vey what interesting people and what a fabulous education I received. In the spring of '53 I was to make my Confirmation. The kindness and gifts I received..unbelievable. It was explained to me that it was the same as a Bat Mitzvah in the Jewish religion so I was treated like a princess, believe me. Good memories.

25. WOW!
Oh, what a history.

My grandmother was one of that first generation in the garment district. The first in her shop to walk out on strike. At 17.

When the summer shows were over they were headed for the mountains to the big hotels. I gave my mother a fit because I wanted to go with the group (to be discovered of course.) Hahaha, 13 years old going to Grossingers!! Mother was not amused....

No link but that's what was implied on Dan Abrams' show earlier.

He knows about as much about Jewish culture as he does about Black culture with his visit to Sylvia's in Harlem a few months back.

He's so white, he's an embarrassment to my race.
