ICE campaign - "In Case of Emergency" (Email forward from relatives back east)
ICE campaign - "In Case of Emergency"

We all carry our mobile phones with names & numbers stored in its memory but nobody, other than ourselves, knows which of these numbers belong to our closest family or friends.

If we were to be involved in an accident or were taken ill, the people attending us would have our mobile phone but wouldn't know who to call. Yes, there are hundreds of numbers stored but which one is the contact person in case of an emergency? Hence this "ICE" (In Case of Emergency) Campaign.

The concept of "ICE" is catching on quickly. It is a method of contact during emergency situations. As cell phones are carried by the majority of the population, all you need to do is store the number of a contact person or persons who should be contacted during emergency under the name "ICE" (In Case Of Emergency).

The idea was thought up by a paramedic who found that when he went to the scenes of accidents, there were always mobile phones with patients, but they didn't know which number to call. He therefore thought that it would be a good idea if there was a nationally recognized name for this purpose. In an emergency situation, Emergency Service personnel and hospital Staff would be able to quickly contact the right person by simply dialing the number you have stored as "ICE".

For more than one contact name simply enter ICE1, ICE2 and ICE3, etc. Be sure it's in your kid's cell phones also. A great idea that will make a difference!

-I dunno, seems interesting to me!

2. ICE equates to Immigration Customs Enforcement
Won't this prevent usage by the Hispanic community?

4. It works. I was in a hurry one night (stepson called and asked for a ride) as I was leaving
the grocery store.

I loaded the car and took off to my stepson's work place, picked him up and took him home.

As I was getting out of the car, I reached for my handbag only to find that it wasn't in the car!

I realized that it was still hooked with a metal lanyard to the shopping cart that was sitting in the cart bin at the grocery store.

My son used his phone to call my phone, but hung up before anyone answered.

A few seconds later, his phone rang. It was the people who had discovered my bag in the cart. They were waiting outside the grocery store for me to pick up the bag.

About half a minute after that call, I got a call from my husband yelling at me tht my bag was at the grocery store. He had gotten a call from the people who found the bag a couple of minutes before we called the cell phone.

They had used the ICE number programmed in my cell phone.
