Key paragraph from Krugman's column on Iran
In Yesterday's NY Times, Paul Krugman wrote another blistering and insightfully attack on the failed Bush Presidency.
http://www.nytimes.com/2007/10/29/opinion/29krugman.html?_r=1&n=Top/Opinion/Editorials%20and%20Op-Ed/Op-Ed/Columnists/Paul%20Krugman&oref=slogin

But here is the key paragraph;
Meanwhile, the idea that bombing will bring the Iranian regime to its knees — and bombing is the only option, since we’ve run out of troops — is pure wishful thinking. Last year Israel tried to cripple Hezbollah with an air campaign, and ended up strengthening it instead. There’s every reason to believe that an attack on Iran would produce the same result, with the added effects of endangering U.S. forces in Iraq and driving oil prices well into triple digits.

Not only would an attack on Iran be unjustified and immoral, but like Iraq the consequences would be a disaster. The Israeli bombing of Hezzbolah in Lebanon was sanctioned by Condi and Dick. They wanted to send Iran a message and try out a rehearsal for bombing Iran.
It was an unmitigated disaster for Israel. Something I and others saw before it started. These are people who learn nothing.
If we attack Iran, we are in for a bigger shit storm than we are in now.

1. Hey, Israel's bombing did a huge number on Lebanon's economy.
Hezbollah ITSELF might have not suffered net damage from it, but Lebanon sure did, because Israel took an "all Lebanese are Hezbollah" approach.

Iran's ECONOMY could be devastated by all-out bombing of strategic economic targets. In such a scenario, the Revolutionary Guards may be the only force within the country that can survive the offensive relatively powerfully. You can be sure that moderates that are at least lukewarm to the US will be discredited for a generation or two.

4. That's the point
I've heard Cheney say that bombing Iran would cause the people to rise up against the Ayatollahs. Of course the opposite will happen. These people are evil and delusional. No matter how they fuck up, they continue with there insane ideology.

our pnacers were partners with Israel in bombing Lebanon. It's like the Israel-U.S. plan is to let Israel go for Lebanon and Syria to take care of their enemy, Hezbollah, while the U.S. goes for their other enemy, Iran, from Diego Garcia, Azerbaijan (if that is still on), and/or Turkey or some country to the north that isn't going to listen to Putin/Russia.

Then, all will be peaceful and won over and people will be bowing down so that the outcome can be the pnacer-baron pipe-lines from Pakistan to the Mediterranean. Oil and water.

3. He couldn't be more correct...
All that bombing Iran will do it weaken the dissent already present there and act to strengthen the current regime.

5. "driving oil prices well into triple digits."
That sounds like reason enough for Team Bush. ExxonMobil needs to have a net profit of $75 billion instead of a mere recordsetting $36 billion.
