This is not news. But, I thought I would share the general disgust with how politicians pander to sports fans, with police protection and road closures during business hours. Meantime, you are lucky to get a permit for an anti-war demonstration.

I really like the first comment:

Grumpy on the way to work
By adamg - Tue, 10/30/2007 - 9:31am.

Jason doesn't like large crowds, but has no choice but to come into town for work today:

... To the meathead on my train - 5:30am! - with his face painted: you look like a douchebag, and I look forward to stepping over your passed out, drunken body on my way home tonight. ...

Jason, meet CDG, none too happy about what the parade means for her commute in from Framingham:

Days like today take away from the Sox's recent World Series sweep for me. I don't understand these victory rallies. I just don't. Celebrate! Party! Rally! Go nuts, but please don't barricade city streets that I use to get to work, when I already have to contend with a 23 mile commute that takes upwards of 45 minutes on a light traffic day. Don't invite fans to pile up alongside these barricades and force pedestrians out into the streets, further congesting them.

This situation reveals the unpleasant truth about America, even the "most liberal" (hah) state in the union: our priorities are insane and undemocratic.

5. Jeez, and I thought Bruins crowds
were the epitome of dumbfuckery.

Thanks for the reminder of one of the many reasons I left.

7. Ever sit in the cheap seat of Madison Square Garden during a Ranger's game?
Makes Bruins fans look like Mensa students. :)

8. My knowledge of Bruins fans
comes from working the swing shift at MGH and having to catch the train at North Station just as the Garden let out.

Rangers fans can't possibly be any worse.

4. Well, the US does have more unnecessary wars than the Bosox have WS championships.
They can always protest the next war.

That work will make us free?

Those comments are the same comments you see about anti-war protests as well.

The fact that you even need a permit to protest sort of makes a rally for the Sox more appealing.
