Roadside bomb kills 3 U.S. soldiers in Iraq

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Three U.S. soldiers were killed when their patrol was hit by a roadside bomb southeast of Baghdad on Monday, the U.S. military said.

The deaths takes to 36 the number of U.S. soldiers killed so far this month. If no more casualties are reported it would be the lowest monthly toll since March 2006.

1. I haven't heard that on the news..
I think the MSM is hiding all news about killing and fighting in Iraq. They want bush's surge to work so bad they are censuring any thing that makes it look as if it's not working.

3. The Reuters story is from two and a half hours ago.
It's breaking news, but I can't recall the last time I heard breaking news on mid-day tv or radio unless it was truly stunning and outrageous or involved natural disaster warnings or evacuation. Wait until the next regularly scheduled news break; most major media sources have continued to report on US fatalities and most of the larger incidents involving Iraqi dead. There just aren't as many US fatalities.

A few have even paused to point out the trendline, visible nicely at icasualties.org (which lists casualties for the US, hostile/non-hostile, at 38--I don't know if they've gotten these 3). It's worth noting, of course, that people use the word "momentum" for massless abstractions that have no momentum. So there's nothing inherent in the direction of the trendline saying that it will continue (which is not saying that it's random, either).

In any event, 36 or 38, that includes 10 non-hostile fatalities (which are also down, mercifully, after a few bad months).
