U.S and Britain close embassies

Britain has closed its embassy in Azerbaijan because of security concerns while the U.S has cut back on embassy operations.

It is believed threats were made against embassy staff which caused security concerns.

Azerbaijan is an oil-producing, mainly Muslim republic of eight million people, hemmed in between Iran, Turkey and Russia.

1. A major oil pipeline goes through there. The US has great interest
in Azerbaijan.
