Fun FREEPER Halloween Tip!
This FReeper defends their participation in the "pagan death cult" practice of Halloween by writing up little lectures to the kids and slipping them in the goodie sack.

What a fun group!
=============================

It’s become a cultural event that celebrates death and the macabre.

1) Agreed. That's why we don't "celebrate" Halloween...my kids just dress like Disney characters or something, and get candy. We're not going to be the kind of parents that lock the shutters tight and make our kids be pariahs that don't Trick or Treat.

2) We use it as a chance to minister. I wrote up 8-1/2 x 11 fold up that I slip into the bag of any kid dressed scary or horrific that tells them that at my house they DID get candy, and also that God loves them for who they are and that they should aim higher than playing at evil. They may throw it out, but they may read it...and they know I didn't stiff them for candy, which would let them dismiss Christianity as being nose-in-the-air "I'm better than you."

3) Since my kids actually mix with other sinners (because, aren't we all?) they may have the chance to witness to others about "dark" costumes and a loving God who loves them. Everybody wins.

1. I bought little bags of Doritos that I'm putting Colbert '08 Stickers on!
And if I can find little bags of Funyons, I'll do Goldwater/Miller '08 stickers, too.

12. What a cute idea! Did you make the stickers yourself?
They would be cute on those little bags of oreos too!

Stephanie Miller is TRYING to get Funions to sponsor her run for V.P.

20. Oh right, I knew about the Doritos....didn't know about the Funyons!
That's funny!! I guess she doesn't want to give out any little cans of tuna, huh?? Scary about her merc issues! I really thought about getting tested even though I don't have those symptoms...scary!

2. Get this!
"Halloween = National Dress Like a Whore Day"

I guess they don't want their little Purity Ball designees to wear skimpy outfits. I have a lot less problem with that than I do with little boys (or girls) coming to my house dressed in camouflage and bearing weapons.

Doritos and Funyons? Why not candy? I bought about 32 bags! Skittles unlimited!

17. I get a lot of blood and gore & military stuff knocking at the door...
But even that, ya know, I take it in the spirit of the holiday. I know what you mean though - I have the glorification of violence especially in a lot of the boys costumes.

6. If anyone gave me some preachy crap on Halloween I'd throw it out...
I can't even picture what adult would try to preach to some kid who's out on Halloween getting candy. What the f**k is wrong with them?

25. Yes, please. Halloween should be for kids.
Can't we let kids be kids one day a year? Let them dress up in scary costumes, get free candy and have some fun. Is that to much to ask? This isn't difficult.

Only a real asshole would try to preach to kids on Halloween.

19. I dressed as Jesus once at a party and only 2 people
complained. When I told them my other choice was to dress as a woman they were dumbfounded as to which was worse... hehe. I love to fuck with people.

One of my kids dressed as Darth Vader, if he had gotten that note he probably would have whipped out his lightsaber and wacked the dude with it...

15. The Original Freep article...
Is about "sexy" Halloween costumes for pre-teens. I have to admit that I share the OP (Freeper's) opinion that teaching pre-pubescent girls to express themselves as sex objects is a really bad idea. What kind of parents would do that? I mean, besides the Ramseys?

21. Well of course but I don't see too much of that....
The high school girls do use the occasion to dress kind of "hottie" ish but whatever, I did that back in the day too.

I would prefer not to see any 12 year old little Britneys but it bugs me less on Halloween when it's a costume, than the ones walking around the mall every day! I hate seeing really young girls with the "Juicy" butt logo pants. That seems like, "hey pervs, look at my 12 year old butt!" Thankfully my girls (13 & 16) think all that stuff is so tacky.....

24. That's cool!!! My 16 y/o got the coolest orange vintage 60's JackieO coatdress
She's going as a Kennedy-era working gal....actually that dress is so contemporary looking/in style now she had to sort of be a bit corny with the accessories to get the message across!

23. Oh get this: The Halloween mini-ho's are a result of: FEMINISM!
Yeah, yeah, that's the ticket!

"Actually - I’ve often thought some of this was a backlash against feminism. Feminism denigrates female beauty, the natural female desire for a male companion, etc. Thus, feminism is so anti-feminine, and anti-sexy that girls and women have been going to the opposite extreme as a backlash.

Feminism went to one extreme, so women and girls over-emphasize their femininity and their attractiveness to men. In turn, feminists get more pissy, and more extreme. This is why feminism is increasingly radical in an age where Girls Gone Wild is increasingly popular."

:silly:

27. newsflash to idiot freeper: dressing up as disney characters on halloween
and getting candy IS celebrating halloween

here's my scary story:

this kid says to me: "we don't celebrate halloween."
i said: "do you open the door for trick-or-treaters."
kid: "no."
me: "what do you do when they come to your house?" (i was expecting him to say they ignore the doorbell)
kid: "we pray the rosary"
me: "oh. okay. i just wondered."

ahhh...the joys of homeschooling!

28. If someone tried to push their religion on my kids
(if I ever have any that is), I'd be so pissed off I wouldn't no what to do. How dare they assume that every family is Christian, how dare they assume I'd want my kids brought up and educated under their religion.

:grr:
