Oh sheesh - yet another Republican "I am not gay" self-denying casualty of homophobia.
OK maybe he's Bi. But he is sure is a a self-denier. And yes, he's one of those who vote against equal rights for LGBT individuals and families. Yet one more broken tool the the repressionist bigots created and used to destroy lives.

Curtis was among state GOP lawmakers who were in Spokane last Wednesday through Friday for a retreat to discuss the upcoming legislative session. He went to the Hollywood Erotic Boutique in Spokane on Oct. 26 and met Castagna, who accompanied him back to the hotel, the police documents said.

The two arrived at the hotel around 3:34 a.m. and had sex, after which Curtis fell asleep, according to the documents.

Castagna told police that Curtis gave him his wallet to hold as collateral for the remainder of the $1,000.
"Cody Castagna admitted threatening to publicly expose Richard Curtis' gay lifestyle to his wife unless Richard Curtis provided the disputed money," the documents said.

Curtis, a former firefighter, declared, "I am not gay."

In his initial statement to police, Curtis denied offering money for sex, and denied having sex at all. He told officers he believed he had been slipped "some type of drug" because he did not have a clear recollection of the evening's events.

The police report added that Curtis told officers he only wanted his wallet back "and wanted to keep the incident as low key as possible." He did not want to pursue charges against Castagna, the report said.

But as the investigation continued, police said Curtis admitted to having sex with Castagna in Curtis' hotel room.

In 2005 and 2006, Curtis voted against a bill that granted civil rights protections to gays and lesbians.
In 2007, Curtis voted against a bill that created domestic partnerships for same-sex couples.
Both measures eventually passed the Democratic-controlled state Legislature and are now part of state law.

4. This is not about being gay or not. There are plenty of gay Dems
Edited on Tue Oct-30-07 08:50 PM by ConsAreLiars
who are honest with themselves and others.

Being gay and at the same time believing the homophobic crap spewed out by some "moralists" really twists one's psyche. It forces what otherwise might be a normal reasonably well-adjusted person into a rabid bigot who has to maintain the "I AM NOT GAY!!!" persona while engaging in what he regards as a shameful vice in some closet, back alley, bathroom stall, public park or hotel.

7. Today's GOP cares zilch about homosexuals. Zero compassion. Zero rights. Zero respect.
The sexual orientation has nothing to do with it.

9. Worse than that. They make them into the "other."

And thus they attract those self-hating closet cases that are so into denial they make a career out of bashing. Same thing happened with the Nazi party.

8. Maybe the question should be are there any straight Republicans?
BTW, I don't think a person's sexual orientation makes any difference or is anyone's business, unless they are hypocritical about it.

2. It will be so refreshing when politicians start saying "I'm gay, so what?"
You would have thought we would be there already.

3. Oops - I was willing to give the guy the benefit of the doubt yesterday but it sounds as if he has
been quite deceitful about his actions. Claiming to have been drugged is pretty lame. But even with all that I could let it go if it were not for this.....

"In 2005 and 2006, Curtis voted against a bill that granted civil rights protections to gays and lesbians.

In 2007, Curtis voted against a bill that created domestic partnerships for same-sex couples."

That does it. Another closeted hypocrite. Dammit, I don't blame anyone for staying in the closet but to practice homophobia at the same time is just a bit too much. Fry the hypocrital bastard with scorn and public humiliation.

6. What really irks me about these cases is that the principals involved.....
are more ashamed of being gay than any of their actual embarassing or illicit activities....Newsflash, Mr. Curtis: Being gay is the one thing you shouldn't be apologizing for.

11. More details.
The state legislator has now resigned, and more of the, uh, blow by blow details of the various doings are now coming out.

http://www.spokesmanreview.com/tools/story_breakingnews_pf.asp?ID=12164

A state representative dressed as a woman and engaged in oral sex at a Spokane Valley adult bookstore before rendezvousing at a downtown Spokane hotel for another sexual encounter with a man now under investigation for extortion, police reports released Tuesday allege.

<snip>

The two met shortly before 1 a.m. Friday at the adult bookstore where Castagna was watching porn videos, the police reports say.

An employee at the store told detectives Curtis has been in the business three times in the last month and is called "the cross-dresser" by employees.

During questioning by detectives, Castagna said he saw a man later identified as Curtis in Hollywood Boutique on Friday "wearing long red women's stockings and black sequined lingerie." Castagna later told detectives he saw a man who appeared to be around 40 with a cane performing oral sex on Curtis, according to the police reports.
