Is Mukasey still a 'shoo-in' for Attorney General?

Awhile back, I took a lot of heat here for saying that we should not confirm Mukasey. Now that he's declined to say that waterboarding is a form of torture, is he still a shoo-in? Hell, not only that, but he claimed that he wasn't familiar with the term. How can anyone in his position, with all the controversy that's been going on over the past few years, not know about this practice?

IMHO, Bush is incapable of offering up anyone that would be acceptable. I know that we don't want the guy who's in place right now. But surely, we don't have to rubberstamp just anyone that * nominates. Bush has shown absolutely NO willingness to work with the Democrats on anything whatsoever - with him, it's always been 'my way or the highway'.

reject him so that the nom doesn't go to the floor for a vote? That's the question. Schumer's been awfully quiet, and even after the letter Mukasey sent yesterday for "clarification", saying that he'd look into whether waterboarding is torture once he's confirmed, none of the dems on the committee said conclusively that they wouldn't vote for him. Biden has already said it, of course. That leaves 9 others. Schumer and Feinstein are the ones I'm most concerned about.

And after his letter yesterday there should have been a group denunciation of him by all the dems on the JC. However, I think his chances are a lot less than they were a week ago- and sliding every day.

I apologize for that but I did it to highlight the problem that people put on ignore increaasingly seek out those who put them on ignore to insult and berate, KNOWING that person is not capable of replying to their message, nor desitres any contact with said individual.
