including lollipops and metal "scary' eye glasses and pens with scary figures on the eraser end, etc.
But it didn't look like anyone has bought any of them. When I mentioned it to the clerk (my buddy)
he just shrugged. I'm not buying any of that crap but there's an elementary school just behind this
station and I see those kids go in there after school for soda and snacks after school everyday.

Should I call the town health dept. about the potential ?

I'm not usually a 'busy body' to make a call like that but I think that crap should be removed.

"Lead is ingested through the mouth much more quickly than through the skin."

What do you think???

Urgent Call For Recall Of Halloween Toys

Professor Tips Off Feds To What He Says Are High Lead Levels

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/10/29/earlyshow/living/parenting/main3422364.shtml

(CBS)-

A professor and his assistants at Ashland University in Ohio routinely test toys -- in their spare
time -- for unsafe levels of lead. Some of the information Dr. Jeffrey Weidenhammer has provided to
the Consumer Product Safety Commission has resulted in recalls, reports CBS News correspondent Hari
Sreenivasan. Now, says Sreenivasan, Weidenhammer and his team have found what they say are dangerous
amounts of lead in some toys meant for kids to use on Halloween -- and they hope the CPSC issues
speedy recalls before the holiday on Wednesday.

One toy in focus is called "ugly teeth." Besides being ugly, the fake plastic teeth have what the
researchers say is 100 times the allowable levels of lead in the paint. The teeth are just one of
dozens of Halloween toys Weidenhammer and his team tested. They say they also found high lead levels
in some Halloween baskets, but they say the plastic teeth are of greatest concern because lead enters
the system fastest when ingested.

On Thursday, the CPSC issued a recall of Halloween pails that children might use to carry their
treats in, based partly on tests the professor and his lab had done. They say they also found high
levels in a Frankenstein cup and white skull bucket, but never received an explanation about why
those two items weren't recalled.

In a statement to CBS News, the CPSC would only say it "welcomes information from a variety of
sources that may assist us in our investigation."

3. I can't afford to buy a test but the Health Dept.
should have a test kit, I would think.

The novelty items are very attractive and brightly colored and at a child's eye level.

Maybe I can just call and make an inquiry. ;) I'd hate to see any kids get hurt.

9. I just called and guess what? They have been trying to hire
a Health Dept. director for a month or so... BUT the woman on the phone said she was really glad
that I called them and that she's going to call a Board member and they will go and visit them and
the other two convenience stores in town. She said she has kids and she wasn't aware this store
was selling this "garbage" and that she's going to call the school too and warn them.

2. Why do you patronize Mobil anyway?
I would push my car two miles to the next station before I'd put a drop of Mobil (Exxon) gas in my car.

5. China now pwns Halloween.
The only way is to take it back and make your own stuff.
Chinese Halloween is grim deadly full of lead.

6. I'm not even getting a pumpkin this year! lol
My kids are all grown, so I'm not even putting up what little Halloween decor I do have.

The holiday season will be difficult for a lot of parents with young kids, I suspect.
